Absent from work due to the volcano.

Hi I was absent from work for four days due to being stuck abroad during the volcano incident.I was wondering if anyone could tell me what Royal Mails policy is on this,i think i may have to take it as holiday but I would rather not.I was hoping there might be some loophole whereby i could get round it.Help much appreciated cheers.

You could see if the boss is willing for you to take out as unpaid I think Paid and Unpaid leave are the only 2 choices.

Heard today that the choice is use your own hols up or take it as unpaid leave.

Its amazing how may people have been affected in different ways by that ash!

You would think that the governenment could organise a statutory payment form based on similar pro-rata rates to Statutory Redundancy Pay at the very least, for employees with unsympathetic employers

I spoke to HR on Friday, on behalf of someone else. There are three options:

1. You can take the time as annual leave.

2. You can take it as unpaid special leave.

3. You can work back the hours on overtime (time off in lieu) if your office does enough overtime.

I can't believe you had enough money to actually go away on holiday maybe that's why RM want to give us a pay cut to stop us from getting stuck abroad

Looks like it will just come of your a/l entitlement.

i was due to fly home last sunday (18th) only got home on friday. Was just going to take the week off but they pestered me to come in saturday as they where short staffed!!!! So i was toldthat it will go down as 4 days a/l.

I was also unable to return from holiday and have been given another option of working 4 rest days to pay back the days I missed

I was in southern Spain and have used four days leave to sort it.Unlike Iamnotadoormat I said I was back late friday/sat morn instead of back at teatime so I got the sat off aswell.
