PO GRADES GETTING PA GRADES OVERTIME IS THIS FAIR?
Hi all, overtime is a sensitive issue anywhere I'm sure, especially at the moment!!! At our centre we have had an informal agreement in place since the building was opened (in the 1990's). The agreement covers regular/scheduled overtime on a Saturday. All the overtime covers roles carried out by P.A. grades but P.O. grades get some of the overtime on Saturdays. Senior Managers say this is the only opportunity the P.O. grades get to do overtime. Thats fair enough, but at the expense of the lower paid P.A. grades??? When a P.O. does Saturday overtime they get paid more than the manager on duty that day
Does this happen anywhere else? I'm the assistant rep for our centre and have challenged this with the ops manager who agrees that it needs to be changed ( so he can save money! ) but says he can't until the main rep comes to him with an alternative proposal. I have obviously spoke with him about this, he is reluctant to upset the P.O.'s but said if the majority would be in favour he'd go along with the change.I'm just after some opinions/advice on this matter, thanks. Re: PO GRADES GETTING PA GRADES OVERTIME IS THIS FAIR?
A lot of PO grade duties have been removed from our unit illegally. The duties exist but they are filled by temporary POs and below. If we had our proper quota of POs, you would be trying to save their overtime.
Overtime must be allocated fairly. POs are members and deserve their fair share.
The ops manager is a very slippery character and needs to be treated with caution. Remember, he wants to get rid of POs altogether and that is why he is trying to get PAs to train on PO jobs. At the moment, this is for holiday cover (extra £20) but if he can get POs to leave he will remove their duties from the template even though the duty still exists.
We have been told that management are not allowed to promote anyone to PO grade. How is this fair? Are higher grade duties allowed to be absorbed into lower grade duties?
We have a caste system in our cash centre. There is a PA class, a PO class and we are ruled by a management class.
