Opinions please.....

I'm currently off work as last Thursday I was biten on the face by a Japanese Sher Pei while on duty.

Since that night I havent been able to sleep proparly(maxium 3 hours a night, most nights getting by on 1.5 hours) and my doctor has issued me with a sickline(1 week at 1st, today was given another 2 weeks) and also given me Sleeping pills which aint helping.

Now today my Manager returned from holiday and I was in handing in my sickline, and he said he was challenging the sick line as he doesnt see why I cant work in doors? He referred my case to ATOS who he said would contact me in the next 48 hours. He also said I should know that Dog attacks are part and parcel of being a Postman. He said the longer I'm off the harder it will be to get me back into work(not sure what he meant by this but seems to me he is threatening me over my job, which is the last thing I need right now!).

Now speaking with my parents they said this is bullying and trying to get me back to work when Im in no fit state to work due to lack of sleep and that I should contact my Union Rep and report it.

Does anybody agree with this? Any Union reps on here able to help?

All i can say is that is shocking treatment and you need to speak to the Rep or area rep ASAP.

Sounds like post traumatic stress to me and will take time matey, good luck.

Get hold of your rep....thats a first.

Secondly ring them up once a week whilst you are off to let them know whats happening

Thirdly get your rep to give you a copy of the grievance form

Fourthly if they speak to you again(management),ask to be referred to the Atos stress councelor.

Sorry to hear of your attack, can you be a little more specific, i.e is it the thought of delivering again or is it a physical barrier,
i.e is it the lack of sleep causing you to feel unfit for work?

Simply point out to your manager that you are taking your Doctors advice.
If your doctor had considered you fit for indoor work he would have indicated such on your "fit note".
Of course you should report such blatant cases of intimidation to your rep.
He/she should be only too happy to point you in the right direction should you wish to take it further.

Compo? As in Compensation? Would I be entiltled to this? How would I go about that?

How long you been with Royal Mail? If more than a year then you'll be paid for as long as your doc signs you off, if less than a year then you won't get paid but don't take any s**t from your DIM or DOM, take your union rep in with you and ask him to clarify what he meant when he spoke to you.............he'll curl up like an embarrassed child and if your reps any good he'll wrap him up in knots!

Stay off for as long as you need to, ATOS will help you, not hinder you contrary to popular belief!

Been with RM just under 3 years now.

Will speak with my Union Rep 1st thing in the morning when I can get his contact number.

He Can say what he wants,it is his opinion,I agree with Your Parents .Next time your sick note in is due ,get someone elese to hand it in for you or send it in recorded delivery.

If your Manager wishes to see you ,ask him come to your house,or a location of your choice ,and make sure you have a witness.
From your Manager comments ,one can only assume he is a fully qualified Medical Doctor,thats why he is making comments regarding your injury and ability to work.

Now we know he is not a Doctor ,so if he says anything to you like this again ,Ask him if thats his Medical opinion? and if he would care to put is thoughts in writing.

Get refered to ATOS asap ,sure you will have nothing to fear from them,Hope you have reported the matter to the Police,and consulted a solicitor.

I would keep a diary of any contact you have with your line manager, dom and atos. Make notes of what is said to you and who said it that way if you're asked any questions you will be able to answer them.

Just ask your Manager where they trained to be a doctor and ask if he is medically trained to assess if your fit for work or not? When the reply comes back that he is not just inform him that its best to let the real doctors do that then!

Your DOM didn't tell you about that? get on the phone to cwu pronto.A few hundred in your sky rocket will ease the pain
