hi i got a job with the royal mail and it said postman with driving so i started and it turned out there was no driving at all have they broke the contract cos there is jobs with occasional and no driving mine was with driving im not happy also i want to do over time on the class 1 wagons but they said there is none as we use agency that cant be right either surly i should get 1st refusal as i am a royal mail employee please help

1. All adverts for RM postmen/women currently state "occasional" driving and if you work in deliveries or are likely to then when CDVs deliveries start you'll be doing a fair bit of driving.

2. Not sure if you would be able to to do Over Time (Docket) on Class 1s as the tachograph LAWS are very specific in that all working hours count not just driving hours and for a Manager to plan your docket into a plan would be quite difficult.

hi thanks for answering i applied for my job with driving im positive and the working time directive is i can DRIVE for 10 hours per day on lorrys and be on duty for 15 hours you never drive more than 4 on a normal shift what i meant by overtime is do my normal job 7-12 then go an do a 2-10 on the wagons i would even go on the 600 as working 24 hours a day is no good any help would be greatly appreciated

My understanding HGV do a 48 hour week, so think thats the law.On top of that RM have their own rules,These are set official rules,but not followed in some offices but enfored with rigour in others,you must have a 12 hour break bewteen shifts,So If your shift finished at 2pm on paper(not what time you actualy
finnished) and your next shift was due at 06.00 am the next day you could do 4 hours overtime.
