How can you have so many off on AL each week? My office has 32 walks and 6 other duties and we have a maximum of 5 on AL at once. If you have 30 walks with 38 staff who covers days off?

We have 7/8 on AL each week all year round bar xmas weeks. I dont have the exact figures but thats the jist of things, deffo 7/8 on AL though .
That is a very high annual leave spread for 40 staff office.

Leave calculatons are normally done like this - 40 x 6 weeks annual leave = 240 divided by 48 weeks (as Christmas is a closed leave period ) that then equals 5 should be off.

If your office has 7/8 annual leave spread you must have a lot of times in the year when you have hardly any off especially as not everyone has 6 weeks annual leave.

They may have a wallington system in place which may be throwing his figures off slightly.

Ignore your managers,it's not down to them, when all the bits come out and your reps have their meetings, just work your bollox off to get it right.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Jimmy Carr`s laugh wrote:It used to be 6 I believe, but then we got more off when we resumed summer lapsing, it went upto 8 (I think). Then we do 2 walks lapsing mon/tue all year round. Our manager lets people take xtra weeks off when they need them and then they owe him a certain number of rows - these debts are paid back covering rows when the lapsing isnt being taken wed - satdi, imo its wrong on every level but it happens 100%.

Dont know if this happens at ther offices but incase of family emergenices we get time off and owe it back !! 2 recent things were 1 blokes wife reacted badly to anaesthetic and went into a coma on the operating table, was out of it for 3 weeks or so , so he had to take 3 weeks off coz they have 3 kids and he`d lots to do. When he came back he was told he owed them 120 hrs which equates to 120 rows !! They now make him work his day off every week doing 2 or 3 rows of his debt. And a blokes wife recently got breast cancer, had to have the breast removed etc , and he took 2 weeks off to help her through it, came back and they said he owed them 60 hours (hes pt). Theyre making him do a ft van duty for 3 weeks to pay back the hours he owes. Thing he shes going through chemo now and the like, and he cant go with her coz he owes them and hes asked for days here and there and he`s been told no chance.

DO YOU HAVE A FECKIN REP JCL?
OR AN AREA REP?
SOMEBODY,ANYBODY NEEDS TO SORT YOUR MANAGER OUT. :evil/mad

Sorry for shouting but..........

According to Dingo, we are guaranteed to choose what attendance pattern WE want from the menu of option. No DOM or anyone else apart from the delivery staff can influence what attemdance pattern is implemented.

So unless Dingo is wrong or telling porkies, rest easy friend.

Can someone please post on here the part of agreement that says everybody is guaranteed to work fewer saturdays.

If they can, WELL DONE and thank you for putting my negative thoughts to bed.

Top part is the proposed national agreement and the other two bits are from the promotional lefalets sent out to us all by CWU

Saturday Attendances

In addition to the above it is jointly recognised that Saturday attendances and in particular the number of Saturdays worked require special attention in order to meet the aspirations of employees and the needs of the business.
In recognition of this Royal Mail and CWU commit to providing more Saturday off options as part of improved attendance patterns for delivery employees. We have jointly explored and identified a number of options/opportunities to maximise the number of Saturdays off.
Whilst the precise number of Saturdays off and the aspirations of employees will vary from unit to unit, both parties believe we can deliver cost effective and reliable options that will maximise the number of Saturdays off for those who wish them. Royal Mail and CWU commit to achieving at least 1 in 4 Saturdays off for the majority of employees (including reserves) during the roll out of the operational transformation programme. In some circumstances this may be exceeded utilising jointly identified options to provide 1 Saturday off in 2 or 3.
Progress on all the issues/objectives above will be jointly monitored and reviewed at national level on an ongoing basis.

• A MINIMUM of one in four Saturdays off with the opportunity to go beyond this.
A menu of options will be provided.

Saturdays – The introduction of the new machinery means we cannot avoid a standarised 6 day service.
Neither can we ignore our obligations to deliver on Saturdays – but the agreement GUARANTEES more
Saturdays off for those who want them. This is a real opportunity to develop new work patterns that suit
your circumstances. A menu of options will be provided to ensure more Saturdays off are delivered in
practice.

Attendance Patterns and Duty Structures

Whilst the emphasis will be on local parties to develop and agree duty structures

As a local rep I wont be agreeing anything that does not deliver 1 in 4 sats off for those that want that.

However I suspect that not all options will be viable in each unit, which is why there is a range in the first place, so as to ensure there is a way of getting the 1 in 4 sats off for those who want it in each D.O.

Both parties accept that attendance patterns and duty structures must efficiently and cost effectively align hours to workload, meet the delivery specification and USO, and provide a real incentive for change.

It would be helpfull if we had details from the HQ's as to how attendance patterns can be implemeted and made to work as the delivery manager has allready said we cant have a range of attendance patterns, to which I dissagreed. To have one size fits all and stay within the saturday paramaters is impossible as Ive members wishing to stay on 5 day week fixed day off and mbrs that wouldnt mind the wallington.

If ity gets a wee bit complicated for local managers then if i was a CMA rep I would be demanding RML equip my mbrs with the skills to manage a varity of patterns week in week out. Perhaps thats one of the things that RML and CMA willbe talking about in terms of how 2010 affects the lower level CMA grades?

Thanks for posting reply Big Daz, i think i have the jist of your views on agreement (not as negative as mine i think :Very Happy )

Now i dont know how to insert text on here (dumb i know, maybe why i dont get the full positive part of agreement) so i will rewrite some quotes from your post.

1, RM & CWU commit to achieving at least 1in 4 Saturdays off for the MAJORITY of employees.

2, Meet the aspirations of employees and the needs of the business.

3, Whilst the precise number of Saturdays off and aspirations ..... will vary from unit to unit.

I will repeat my question where does it GUARANTEE more Saturdays off for EVERYBODY in AGREEMENT.

4, But the agreement guarantees more Saturdays off for those who want them. A little misleading dont you think from CWU.
This ain't no baseball game, you get only one chance and you blew it.

A majority needs to be only 51%!!!! So not everyone will be getting 1 in 4 Saturdays off. Who decides who gets them off i don't know. Will it be on a seniority basis?? Will it be based on postmen with families??If this areement gets voted in EVERYONE is going to expect at least 1 in 4 Saturdays off and it's not going to happen and there's going to be a lot of angry postmen in our office.( a cwu memo getting passed about our office fails to mention the word MAJORITY) I've tried explaining to them that a lot of them won't get 1 in 4 but they're not listening. They're more angry at the D2D situation and losing the ESA and members of our office, I.E. The PHG( keeps his allowance and gets the delivery supplement) Drivers( Keep their driving allowance and get the delivery supplement). Going to be a lot of fun over the coming months.
