Lowest age of a postie
I know about cadets,do they till do them btw,but my real question is,can a 17yr who will be 18 in march become a postie,their is no age thing is there?
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

they have the apprentice scheme now starts at sixteen i think. But not many people on them unlike the old cadets scheme. It seems that the bosses sons & daughters get these posts first lol

I asked my manager this question, and the answer was yes, but he said he wouldn't expect a 17 yr old girl to go straight in and do a full duty, whereas a boy of that age would have more physical strength for doing the duty.

Think so as they had a clause about the new/old pension thingy about under 18s being able to do something after their 18th birthday.

Postman I joined when I was 17 , so think you can still join at that age. Seems a lifetime ago.

It would actually be age discrimination if a 16 year old was refused a job soley on the basis of their age if they were physically capable of doing the job!

A couple of years ago we had a 16 year old girl who used to throw in her own walk and deliver it no problems without booking O/T - what made it all the more remarkable was that she was about 5 ft 2in, although she was one of the old timers' daughters, and he's a tough wee chap.

Yes, there's no minimum age to join RM. But they don't get the same wages as us, until they turn 18.
