I know it's been asked many times before but how many items of mail are trays supposed to contain on average.

Depends who you listen to. Anything from 100 (management) to 250(postmen).

Like I said. Depends who you listen to. A lot of the time now the trays are partly filled with letters and partly filled with flats in whichever proportion you want.
