I have a primary school on my walk which is closed for Easter, I have been banding it up on my frame and have an official "Schools Shut" label I get from the managers desk on the bundle with the date it closed and the date it re opens filled out. Anyway I got back today and someone (must be a manager) has pulled the bundle out of the slot on the frame and reversed the "Schools Shut" label and written on the back "To be killed off".
I assume this is good old penny pinching by RM and the school prolly doesn't have a keepsafe of whatever set up. Do I have to kill this off, it's only going to take me 5 minutes so it's not the killing off itself that annoys me it's the fact that it's the mail for a fecking primary school! There's things like postcards in the bundle from kids that have gone on holiday and I really do object to killing stuff like that off, it's doing no harm on my frame until next Monday

yea we are a business,but what harm does it do keeping on your frame till school re-opens.
the poor saps would have to set up at least a dozen keepsafes every year.
the amount of mail they receive each year surely justifies a little goodwill on RMs part.
By rights it should be killed off as "no access" if no keepsafe is in force but just deliver it all when the school re-opens! If the mail was on your frame then nobody should of wrote anything on the label, not even your manager without discussing it with you first!
What's happend to all the other schools mail in your area?
Whole office told to kill off all school mail that does not have an offical keep safe in place. I normally warn the schools on my run the week before, but the school say its a head office thing and they dont have the budget to do a keepsafe for every school in the area.
Few packets and magazines, but some of the mail looks important invoices type letters, so dont think they will be to happy when I tell they it has all been returned.

The secondary schools have keepsafes but as in the post above it has to come out council coffers and there isn't enough budget to go around all the schools.
Seems wrong this! What about shops and businesses that are shut on Saturday? Do you kill their mail off aswell? Are the schools going back in this week anyway?
We`ve been told we can only keep school mail for 1 week,so if closed for 2 weeks kill off 1st weeks and hold 2nds for redelivery when they re-open.

LOL we have this on here every time they are out of term.
Every single school authority was written to a few years ago and was told that in the holidays they are to pay for a keep safe.
They have chosen to ignore it so they have to face the consequences,at my place and many others no doubt they are kept and delivered when they re open.
For the record it was PostCon that brought it up.
Also firms and anywhere else that close down for longer than 3 day should do the same.

we used to keep mail for schools while they were on holidays under fitting,then because of the amount of mail,driver usually delivered it 1st day back at school,but that ended 12-18 months ago,in our office,unless they had a keepsave.now it is delivered to either the school, or the receptionists home address.(yorkshire)
So just what happens to all this killed off mail, eventually after going through the system what can be returned gets delivered back to the sender, all this for one inclusive price and often its mailsort DSA. Schools on my round are amongst my biggest customers, why piss them off its far easier to hold the mail and deliver it when they reopen, its also one less call per day for my bulk driver. It really makes no sense making extra work by putting this mail back through our system.
There's over 80 schools where I live, times 80 by £29.40 = £2352. That needs to be done for for Summer, Easter, Christmas and the three Half-Terms so 6 x £2352 = £14112 a year for the city I live in. All of that has to come out the council budget which is funded from our council tax. It doesn't sound much when you say it's £29.40 but what it really adds up to is a lot of money.

A lot of it will end up getting sent to Belfast because it has no return address, like you say this just makes more work for us and makes no sense. It's almost spiteful in a way.....won't pay for a keepsafe? We'll go out of our way to make sure you don't get it at all then...
