Agree totally with what you have said . I think the whole idea of bigger delivery spans, later starts, loss of earnings is a ploy to get people to leave. What can they be thinking about making later delivery times...and to be honest what is their reason for doing so other than to p..s the workers off! I remember when posties were out on the streets at 7 oclock first letter. The majority of the customers were home between the hours of 7 and 9.30 to receive packets and specials. All the mail got delivered and RM Still were able to make a substantial profit! The mail was more or less sorted manually and yet now with the introduction of machines it is in fact going to make deliveries later and later. The Way Forward seems to be working backwards. Hope they have put money aside to build an extension on the callers office as even now the amount of undelivered packets and parcels being returned to the office is ridiculous!

Later start times which will be a reality for some of us will mean later finish, its not rocket science. A 7 hour saturday starting at 7am rather than 6am will finish at 2pm and not 1pm.

With the late Saturdays and all this pro rata rubbish, i have decided to hand my notice in and go back to driving for my self, which will be more stressful but worth it in the end..

Just can't see this job getting any better, which is really sad because 3 years ago it was the a really enjoyable job..

I thought modernisation meant improving a company and providing a better service for it's customers I guess I was wrong. It just means making more profit at the expense of the workers and the customers. Although I think postcomm have a lot to answer for, why do Royal Mail HAVE to provide a delivery service on a saturday but the rival companies not have to provide a service? I think the rules postcomm have made have a lot to do with why we're in the situation we're in now.

I will be packing the job in when later Saturdays come in. Along with unlimited D2D including Saturday delivery of these items it will have ruined a good job. I am quite prepared to take a lower paid job for no Saturday working.

You have hit the nail on the head.

Postcomm decide how the EU postal directive should be applied. Postcomm is made up of spivs who have financial interests in private mail firms. Even Hooper recommended that Ofcom should replace Postcomm.

The postal sector is not in crisis. Personal letters are being replaced by emails and that is all. This is more than offset by the boom in internet shopping. We should be getting our slice of this.

The rationale behind liberalising the EU postal sector was that competition would improve efficiency and drive prices down. There is no evidence to prove that this has been the result. EU countries like Finland have adopted a more defensive approach and actually looked after their own people. Aggressive countries like Germany and Holland privatised their postal services at the earliest opportunity so that they could cherrypick the most profitable parts of other country's postal market. The only reason for privatisation is to get capital for aquisitions. The idiot Mandelson is still persuing this policy eventhough we have missed the boat. The whole thing was dodgy in the first place because national postal service providers of large countries started off with an unfair advantage.

So will I eventually,got to get other employment first though,but eh I've got to keep trying.I absolutely hate my job now and that thought aint gonna change in the future.I don't want to get up and go to work the way I used to when the job was an hell of alot better than it is now and that was only 5 years ago.
Good luck RM because if the later Saturdays is a ploy to make people leave then I feel you will succeed .
I can't see anybody wanting to take a job with RM unless they pull the wool over peoples eyes during the interview stage by giving them all the talk about what a great company they are to work for NOT!!.
I feel this will run the company into the ground and it won't be a pleasant place to work as you won't see many of us walking round witha smile on our faces or even giving the customer the time of day as some of us do now,our heart won't be in it anymore.
