SUMMARY
• CWU members have voted overwhelmingly in support of industrial action to reject
Royal Mail’s cost-cutting business plan which not only threatens our members’ jobs,
pay and pensions but the very future of Britain’s universal postal service and post
office network.
• In three separate ballots covering staff in Royal Mail Letters and Post Office Limited,
an overwhelming 70% of members have voted to support the CWU’s call to stop
Royal Mail’s massive programme of cuts. Under the guise of ‘modernisation’, Royal
Mail is planning 40,000 job losses, a real term pay cut, an end to our pension scheme
and imposed changes to working practices. Royal Mail is also planning to downsize
the service, hike up stamp prices, hit business customers with zonal pricing, reduce
the regularity of collections & deliveries and continue the drastic programme of Post
Office closures.
