ok we have been told in our office that we will get 3.5 pence per item for all election material except the poll cards,now i have read the election procedure and know that we should be getting paid for them, question is if they turn up on monday what do we do as what they will try to do is make us take them out and say we will get it sorted out later,do we phone hq and ask bob gibsons office or take a 2 hour tea break and see who shows up from area ,any suggestions ? we have a union rep who is off for a few weeks by the way

You will get paid for them that is the agreement and your Dom needs to know that and not to try and take the piss.
At our office we counted our poll cards,Dom came round with a sheet with all our names on and our duty and we wrote down the amount(1330 on my walk)and signed our name.We were all paid this week.

AFAIK you can refuse to deliver the election leaflets. You must inform your DOM that you dont want to deliver them and he/she will take steps to get them delivered. I think it is a f*cking disgrace that we in the East of Scotland are getting 3.5p per item while our comrades in the SE England are getting 6.6p
It should be a national agreement for this as every election casts up the same disparity between areas depending on the strength of the union in local/ regional areas.

Its all part of an agreement reached with the CWU and Royal Mail - An agreement where you get paid different amounts in different areas for doing the same job. It should be noted that Royal Mail wanted to agree a national rate that would have been significantly lower than the 6.6 pence and slightly higher than 3 pence. This was rejected on the basis of not wanting to bring our members down to a lower common denominator

The rationale behind the move to a pence per item system of remuneration is that, firstly, it is a more equitable system for our members, in that they will be directly rewarded for the amount of items they deliver. In other words it is directly workload related, whereas the overtime payment system was not, whereby (for example) someone can receive 4 hours overtime payment for delivering 600 items while another person receives the same payment for delivering 200 items or even less.

Just make sure you HAND~COUNT every POLLING CARD as the last time we had them the DOM's said that ' X ' amount was in a tray because they had been weight counted, so a few of us counted them by hand and oh to our suprise DOM's figures were out by hundreds upon hundreds.. Just like their mail figures.
