With an agreement reached between CWU and Royal Mail following months of tough negotiations, Dave Ward, CWU Deputy General Secretary Postal spoke to Emma Howard about what the agreement means for members, the areas causing concern and why people should vote for it in the forthcoming national ballot. The progrmme includes a recap of the national strikes last year and interviews with the Bob Gibson, Ray Ellis, Martin Collins and Terry Pullinger explaining their involvement in the agreement

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Dave Ward: "We've go a commitment from the company that everybody who's got a full-time job at the moment will still have a full-time job, and we've got a commitment from the company that those who are in part-time work can still retain their contractual hours through the period of transformation." So it's official then, a two-tier work force. Part-timers can never expect to get made up to full-timers, and, with the pro-rata payments for d2d there is now a 2-tier pay structure in place as well. The thin end of the wedge if you ask me.

In terms of vacancies within your office,we are supposed to go down to the Way Forward agreement in which will still hold the field. This means that if there is a vacancy,(full time),then part timers can apply via seniority. The vacancy should go up after 6 months and picked up via the senior reserve until then. Everyone can apply for that full time position.

We need to find out the vacancies in your office. The Interim Agreement also states to go down the Way Forward route. If part timers have been implemented in your office executively then you/your/Branch/ need to tell managment that under the Interim Agreement, "Change Is Change". Get your senior reserves to pick up those vacancies until the deal is ratified. Get the vacancies up for those that want to sign for a full time job.The Interim Agreement is quite clear. If your office has not actioned their Interim Agreement then you had better get a move on!!

If your rep is s**t(in your opinion) then you have the chance to put this right. Remember...under the Interim Agreement...."Change Is Change".

Get it back to how it should be...it's there in Black & White!!!!

:Sick

I just wonder how many times he practised that - if you just listen to the words it's ridiculous - everyone who has a full time job will still have a full time job BUT later - yes of course there will be job losses - wtf.

Does any of this translate into plain English.

Our members will see that this is a good agreement, our reps will have as much support as they need as never before, there is a new understanding in the workplace - actually there isn't - in most DOs I would imagine the new understanding between managers and reps is in thinking what a crap deal this is for both sides at their level.

Finally I know I have said it before but who is producing this CWU TV - where is it filmed, and who is the first year media studies bozo working the camera - the first two questions you'd have to wonder if DW was actually in the room and for the most part the two on camera were scrunched into half a screen.

Still it pretty much sums up the whole operation.......................amateurish.

Not exactly what they were saying before the strike though Roy:

VOTE YES TO SECURE A PAY DEAL
Shift allowances:-Royal Mail at present only pays part time workers pro-rata of any shift allowance they might get for working unsociable hours. This is the case even though you could be working right next to a full time worker doing the same unsociable hours they receive 100% of the allowance for a 40-hour week and you receive pro-rata of the allowance depending on the hours you work. In a “nutshell”, if you are on a 20-hour contract and work 6pm – 10pm, which goes into a shift payment, you will only get half of what a full time worker gets even though you are working alongside them for the 4 hours!

Holiday pay;- If you have a part time contract for 20 hours but continually work over those hours on a weekly basis when it comes to your annual leave you are entitled to be paid an average of the hours you have worked over the previous 12 weeks up to 40 hours whilst you are on annual leave based.

Share in the success of the industry; - We want you to have a fair share of the success of the industry and receive a share of any savings made in your offices through improved efficient working.

Well now it's vote Yes for a pay cut, increased workload and worse working conditions than before - wow that's some reward for supporting the strikes.

What do you want then? Huge amounts of members money used to film the same interview in a lavish setting, with a couple of million £ on computer-generated imagery playing in the background, so you can rant about how much was spent ?

Look, I am not saying the CWU is above criticism. But this video does what it needs to do - it communicates the message to it's audience. Whether you like that message is your personal choice. But this criticism just for the sake of it is wearing a bit thin now.
