A FEW DAYS AGO...
Manager A, "We need to get the mail to XXX by 9am, as it's a bit later normally. We've got a contract with them. Get out at 8.40am, and deliver it first, understand?"
Me, "Right, no problem, so I don't drop off all the other rounds stuff on the way then, do those later then?"
Manager A, "Correct, priority for XXX."
Got there at 8.57am, delivered, but security guard didn't want to open up...
TODAY:
Manager A, "How'd it go?
Me, "Fine, got there at 8.57am, guard reluctant to open up etc."
Manager A, "Right, leave at 8.50am, and deliver just as they open up officially."
Me, "Ok."
Took down everything for XXX, plus some stuff close by to save time.
WALKING TO VAN:
Manager B, "Where you going? There's still mail on the frame."
Me, explained the request from Manager A.
Manager B, "No, forget that. Take everything down and take it with you. If you're late, it's on my head..."?????????????????????????????????????????? ARRRRGGGGHHHHH !!!!!

I had this problem. Told one of the managers they needed to speak to each other and he got aggressive. Put in B&H complaint after that.
Does this rag smell of chloroform to you?

This is why the service is s**t.They have people,(certainly on the front line),NOT Capable of running it...simple as that!! No use for these managers at all. Trying to get a well balanced instruction off them is pathetic!

So, it could be CRAPABILITY then?
Why is such a simple communication activity so difficult? What's to be gained by confusion, misleading and contadictory statements made within minutes of each other?
I think I know what it is, A Lack of Training. When I did my NEBSS Recreational Supervisory Management course we covered:
Time Series Analysis, Time Span of Control, Herzbergs Analysis, Mazlows Hierarchy, The Theory of Teaching and Learning, History of the Trade Unions, Verbal and Non Verbal Communication, Getting to know the Learners/Staff, Styles of Leadership, The Priciples and Practices of Training...
These were just SOME of the subjects!!! Any MANAGEMENT training course would cover these, and they're NOT rocket science, as I'm not a scientist, believe you me.
You have to STUDY Supevision/Management, not be thrust into it after a few years as a Postie!
We are being run by "Amateurs" who are in charge of a "Professional" organisation.
Their amateur attitude, approach and lack of correct training is killing any relationship with those that they are in charge of.
I think it's about time the Kings New Clothes were exposed as actually being NOTHING AT ALL.

And I imagine that most Managers will think that Joan of Ark was Noah's wife, lol!
But, put simply, knowing the job of a Postie DOESN'T qualify you to become a DOM/Supervisor/Manager...
This needs training, assessments, learning, practice and close supervision etc.
Written test, verbal tests, assessments and academic experience are all required, as well as experiential learning from doing the "job" in the past.
This takes time, money, effort and commitment from all parties concerned.
There doesn't appear to be this aspect of a Professional organisation within RM...well, not in our office anyway.
And possibly elsewhwere too, reading the vast majority of posts on here!
