Good new Delivery Structures for 2010 & Beyond

Post by gb93 »

When (if) this new deal is voted in and local reps have discussions with DOMS about new delivery structures (4 day week and others).

I think it says something in agreement about good ideas being shared and communicated (or words to that effect).

How about posting good ideas or agreements reached on here so others can get same structures.

Hope this is seen as a little more positive it is meant to be.

Might be leaving myself wideopen to ridicule but what do 30 hour part timers think of this. And is there any reason why it cant be agreed by DOMS.

Wont go into complete detail just give the broad idea.

At moment you may 5, 30 hour pt duties with a 30 pt float (or if dont could arrange duties this way) on a 5 day rotating day off = 180 hours.

Take 2 deliveries out leaving 3 duties then have 2 pt on each duty doing 3 days each and sharing the 2 deliveries taken out = same no staff & same 180 hours.

Leaves 3, 10 hour days for each postie possibly 6am - 4pm

Would mean working mon, tue, wed, 1st week then thur, fri, sat, 2nd week. Meaning a 7 day break inbetween.

Then start at week 1 again, Would mean a 3 day week and every other sat off.

Am i crazy for thinking this. Hope i have explained it clear as mud  .

It also leaves a 6 day 10 hour days stint with just the sunday off in between, every other week.

So each postie would be delivering the equivalent of a round and two thirds each day?

I work that out as just under 6 hours delivery

A 3 day week sounds nice - but I'd rather live... :Very Happy

The menu of options have been sent to Royal Mail and should be agreed next week. The menu of option allow for the wallington system , wallington plus system , the 4 day week , the 9 day fortnight which has two options 6 plus 3 and 5 plus 4 , a cdv 2 people sharing with a part time which offers 1 in every two saturdays off with a 4 and 1/2 day structure , 2 in saturdays off in 5 day rotating system , a 2 in 6 1 in 3 saturdays off system .

These options will be available to all staff including reseves ( exceptions are saturday only part timers ).

Now some of you need to think outside the box , too many didt move to a five day week option before SDD as it meant that offices had to give up extra duties to fund the rest day covers , the same will apply to these options but the advatages of the 4 day week system which means you have friday saturday, monday and tuesday off every 3 weeks is some much better , equally the 9 day fornight option of 6 plus 3 means that you have once every four weeks thursday , friday , Saturday , Monday , Tuesday and Wednesday off on the bounce.

Plus if your an office who wants to increase earnings then there is on page 69 of the agreement a heading additional local earnings opportunities which provide a platform for enusuring that earnings will be a key consideration of the revison. Lots of office on a 4 day week or 9 day fortnight survey the staff and allow for one or in some case two rest days to be worked. So in a 4 day week option someone can work 10 hours sa per week for doing his own walk on his/ her day off and clearly would make up any shortfall on any door to door monies they may have lost. Equally on a 9 day fortnight the hourage for working sa would be 8.45 which is quite attractive. Part timers can also work their rest days.

So attendances are a key part of this deal and reps and members need to take advantage of these patterns.

You would still get a day off as you are on a 4 day week.

Red letter it is your choice if you work a 4 day week , i know some who work one of their rest days every week and get an extra 4000 pounds per year and I know some who choose to work both rest days on sa and get 8000 pounds extra per year. Equally I know some who just enjoy the extra time off. The important thing is that you survey the staff to determine what indivduals want to do with each of the options and then you construct the jobs and rest day covers around their preference.

This agreement allows for you to do that its on page 31 of the agreement and its the first thing you do in the revision process.

Well under this agreement you delivery office could be the same. The menu of options , the survey and indeed the opportunity for extra earnings are there. All that remains if the agreement goes through is for Divisions , Branch`s to enusre all offices introduce these in line with agreement.
