My girlfriends lad has been delivering the local free news paper for about 2 years now. He has 120 calls and has been paid 8p per paper plus a penny for every leaflet. His pay averages around £10-£12 per week.
He had a letter last week informing him that the delivery contract has been won by TNT but they are quite happy for him to continue the round but need his bank details etc.
My partner phoned on his behalf today to register his details and was told there would of course be some payment changes. They are now only willing to pay 5p per paper and a fixed fee of £1.50 per week to cover unlimited leaflets. When she asked how many leaflets he would have each week they were very evasive and said there was no fixed amount.
So it works out £7.50 per week which means between £2.50 and £4.50 pay cut. Hardly surprisingly he has hit the roof and no longer wants to do the round.
It will be interesting to see how many leaflets do end up being stuffed in the papers as I recon they will use the local paper as a vessel for leaflet drops.
I don’t know what’s the world coming too when even the paperboy gets stitched up by TNT.
