my dom says i have to work on 30 min twice a week. anybody know if this is true. also in the hereford system so would be working 49 hrs a week against eu regulations last time i looked. any help appreciated?

Remember this type of thing happening a while back in our office, where they could claw back 30 mins on the quietest of days, normaly a mon and tues. Hasn't been implamented in a long time though so think they've forgot all about it

Well there is Good News and Bad News:

Good News:
He is on about the 30 minute flexibility which he can ASK you to do but its not 30 minutes more work a week its 30 minutes moved from 1 day to another, in the same week.

Variation of hours – Where necessary, for example when traffic
volumes are unexpectedly high or resourcing issues arise, individuals
may be asked and may themselves request to vary their duty times by
up to 30 minutes on a swings and roundabouts basis. Again, individual
circumstances will be taken into account and total weekly contractual
hours would not change.

Bad News
The Hereford system is that 1 week off in 6 and you work 6 days a week. If so then the average is worked out as follows:

Adult workers cannot be forced to work more than 48 hours a week on average - this is normally averaged over 17 weeks. You can work more than 48 hours in one week, as long as the average over 17 weeks is less than 48 hours per week.

SO if you are working 49 hours for 15 weeks and 0 for 3 weeks that would make your average hours over the 18 weeks as 41. Even if done exactly as 17 and with 15 at 49 and 2 at 0 average is 43.25 (still under)
