seems the belfast branch are going to be asking the membership to vote yes for the deal.
most are in bed with management anyway now days and dont want to rock the gravy boat they are on.
heard today reps from belfast holding hands with managers while talking to members on the deal, how the worm has turned.

With the way my DOM tried to sell the deal to the office I'd be really surprised if anyone votes yes. We were told that it's 100% D2Ds (they are to be treated as live mail ie. when they come in they're done) and that we're not getting any change in or times to allow for this (in fact we were told that we have to permantly lapse 3 duties to qualify for the 1st non-sequencing revision payment).

That sounds about right......since the ni branch became one they have been sleeping with the enemy. It's the same in our place.....Our reps must of got a backhander. i've never seen him so happy!!!!!

I will second and third those comments about Belfast branch. they sold that deal better than the managers ever could of. this is no April fool,this has been going on for over a year now these so called reps in bed with the enemy,drinking with them and laughing and joking with the worst of bas****s. How do we stop this . I don't know if we stand up to them chances are that are duties will be next to be lapsed. people in our office are genuinely fearing for their jobs. a load of union members resigned because of this a few days ago. I know this wont help but you have to understand there anger at no representation. complete joke our union actually used to be a strong one .now it is finished in our office anyway!!!

Our Dom tryed to sell it to us on thursday, said the same about the D2D,s, BUT allso said it could be more than 5 D2d,s, could be as many as up to .. 9 /10 or 11.....so me thinkin Union once again SOLD us down the river. That was also SAID AT A BRANCH MEETING ..but it only got up to 5/ 6...so there will be more

Wen union in our office (Belfast) got challenged about this deal they tried to counter it with a pre prepared answer, it seems a lot of guys will be losin a mini fortune with this deal. Eg. A lot of walks hav over 1000 calls, n 3 households per week, works out at around 50quid n once a month u get the newspapers worth 4p an item equals around 70quid, so wot is the union playing at?? Northern ireland is in the highest region for households n we stand to lose up to around £1500 per year on the household part of the deal alone,.... Where's the loss of earnings chant they used to use all the time, now... They hav been promised easy duties and maybe a backhander to get all us sheep to tow the line, well Im seriously thinking of leavin the union now too along with scores of others n I wuda backed the union whole heartedly

This Belfast Branch seems to be corrupt to the core. I heard that the Branch officials put themselves forward at a recent AGM for a number of Regional and National union positions. Unfortunately for them they failed to advertise those positions and the Belfast chairman (as corrupt as the rest) had no option and deemed it out of order. Not happy with this, they organised another general meeting, this time they didn't even ask the membership to vote on their nominations to progress. It seems they're not happy with one position and that they are so keen to control their part of the gravy train that they are acquiring numerous positions each to prevent ordinary posties taking up branch seats. I also heard that there are no Protestants in key branch positions, if this is true, can they really claim to be Combined?

I believe that there was also rumours of IRA attacks of members who tried to take up or held branch positions.

Can anyone confirm these points?

All you can do is to advise the Belfast members to leave the union after the ballot result.

A group of non-union staff can demand measures that would diminish the powers of your union reps. For example, you could request that management notifies all members of any proposed changes via a written communication on the notice board . The CWU is reluctant to share information with its members and wants to keep us dependant.

Management, as you know are a law unto themselves and are worst than any terrorists (alleged or otherwise). I don't believe that writing to management will help anyone. As for people leaving, this is happening as we communicate, indeed, has been for some time. Members are leaving because they know how corrupt the Belfast branch is. So I don't think I can do anymore damage than the branch officials themselves, courtesy of Big Bill and his national executive!

The only way this branch can truly turn itself around, is to become truly inclusive, one man one position, rid themselves of the ridiculous name (Northern Ireland Combined) which was imposed by the aforementioned Big Bill and his national executive, and for IRA threats to cease and the perpetrator issuing those threats to go!... I don't believe CWU have a future anymore, simply because of the above, the prospect of cosy trips and time off from the daily drudge of work. Only when you stop all perks will you get the right people, the ones that want to do good and have a genuine social conscience. How many reps do you know that have those special traits?
