Bank Holidays

Post by mentaltheshots »

In my office we usually work from 5.30 to 12.30 on Saturdays, Yesterday (Sat 3 April) we were told by management that because of not working Good Fridy we had to work till 14.00 this was to make up the time as we had Friday of. Is this allowed.

No its not,Good friday was a bank holiday,You owe Royal mail nothing atall for this day off.
Saturday should have been your normal working hours,Ask to be paid overtime or tell him you want them back and finish early next saturday.
We used to work on good friday until royal mail decided they never wanted to pay us the double time and a half for the privelage.

And your rep said......?
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

It makes you think that there is a strong "no Vote" looming because we may have missed out on the main thing within our union...grass roots reps. Where are the next ones coming through?
Has offices not always had reps? Is this a new thing? Is it a position that has lost it's respect?
Discuss.........

what are your real hours supposed to be ?if you get paid 8 hours for a saturday then its reasonable you should work 8 hrs.
by my calculations you should finish at 1330.
so youve had a whole hour extra pay every other saturday..
now i wonder why they think we are overpaid anbd can make savings :arrrghhh

...if he gets a shorter Tuseday,(or whatever),then it is 8 hours. If not, then it is a "significantly shorter Saturday". By the way the Friday is a bank holiday,BUT is a "service day". This means that you don't get it back as a day off,(if your day off falls on Friday)....that is all.No clawback etc.Get your DOM to put it in writing and get your area rep involved.

Doh - at my DO (not the same as mentaltheshots) we have a 7 hour day on Saturdays 6am to 1pm - so they may have 7 hours also 0530 to 1230 :hmmmm - also I believe under SDD you are allowed to defer breaks, so he could finish as early as 1200
