Correct - But word of warning the current P&M07 agreement actually allows them to do this so if this proposed offer is accepted by the membership it won't actually change anything in relation to MC and any other staff being asked to do DO work (and vice a versa)

Agreed.But another word of warning,with the projected M/C closures and the inability of D.Os with later start times to accommodate Family Friendly requests i would expect a large increase in cross-functional working.

Possibly, but if (for instance) an over-weight 60 year old P/T late shift CFC reject hand stamper who'd never done delivery work was told they were being transfered to an early DO delivery duty, they would be well within thier rights to refuse.

I bet a lot of mail centre workers will looking forward to a nice cosy payoff when their mail centre "could be closed" but what happens if they are asked offered another job within rm ie delivery offices, do they fancy becoming donkeys. My hunch is no job, no reduncancy package.
An example could happen (probably will happen) when they close either Glasgow mail centre or Edinburgh mail centre.
People in the mail centres have to look at will they get a better deal now or are they better to reject the deal where they may have better prospects of a better deal in 3/4 years time.

I HOPE THIS DOES HAPPEN. Then perhaps they will realise who is doing the most work, and as long as they dont mind taking a cut in wages for doing infact more work. A few months ago we had a MC worker turn up at our office and was so looking forward to becoming a delivery person as he was fed up of working indoors and asked for a transfer. HE LASTED 4 DAYS, then asked if he could get his old indoor job back! He went out on delivery at 9.30 and didnt get finished til nearly 4 oclock every day. He was totoally knackered and couldnt wait to get back to the mail centre! Fair play to him he did have the guts to say to us that he didnt realise how hard we had to work compared to his job and couldnt believe that so many of us of a similar age to him had been able to do the dealivery job for such a length of time. He said hed be dead by now. So all you indoor workers we look forward to seeing you out on the streets with us. BRING IT ON

It is happening already in some Offices in London, Collection drivers are being used to take out deliveries on mornings when there is a shortage of delivery drivers and they aint happy about it!
The thing about this proposed agreement is that people need to think about what it will mean to you in the long term,

I think if who you describe was transferd permanently, they wouldn't be able to do the job, and would have grounds for constructive dismmisal.
