Soon as possible hopefully. I feel sorry for some of them, they think they are going places, the only place they will be going is Thomas Cook or Thompsons booking a holiday what they have been paid off with. my ambition is to see one of them on the next frame to me asking for help... we are falling over mangers in our office at the moment. hope they all got to do walks tomorrow...

Royal mail tried to change the management structure Jan to Mar 2007 by interviewing and testing managers to see who was good enough to stay. They did it down to the level of Mail Centre manager which worked but when they moved on to ML3 ML4 through a combination of the CMA scuppering attempted interviews and so many failing assessments if they did take them, the whole thing fell apart. Trying to take on the managers and also it dawning on Royal mail that if they all fail who will we get to fill the role of the managers. They couldnt even fill the 5 managers per shift that they would need in mail centres as so many wouldnt be up to the job, all other posts would be team leaders. Giving up on the managers Royal mail then decided to go ahead with the sequencing machines and the mail centre/delivery office closures first. I wouldnt think they will go back to getting rid of managers as they would have saved the main bulk of money first. Cutting managers would now only happen on part privatisation as Royal mail are very afraid of a managers strike believing that deliveries would come to a halt and that everyone would start stealing from the mail. I would favour a team leader system with CWU tweaking and would do half hour at the beginning and end of my shift unpaid for each day that the managers went on strike.

Let the managers go on strike (if they have the balls) our office runs better when the useless f#ck does'nt turn in and there is no cover.

I am not anti manager as i ve seen good, average and very bad over the years. However even i can see that once the deliveries have gone out our line managers have very little to do in the office other than read newspapers and drink coffee (ive witnessed this over weeks of light duties). They are normally out the door before 12 noon and by 10am on a sat. So I recon i am working over 9 hours a week longer than the line managers.

Which is why i get just a little cross when they get a whopping bonus each year and we are told to do extra work in absorbtion.

In my office a line managers job really should be partime as its a waste of hours.

The last time managers went on strike the offices ran alot better i am not kidding you,they wont go out on strike because they like to think that they are far more important than they are.

from my previous experience from working in a delivery office is that out of a team of 4 managers .1 dom and 3 underlings is if they werent covering postal duties which distorted future savings but increases their bonuses is they actually have very little to do.this is a thorny issue as each review for effiency is done by the least effective part of the business.as an area the area manager has an assistant area manager you wouldnt think that so many pencils needed sharpening.i know that each time they came after hours we would mention get rid of a manager but apparently they are a seperate entity within the budget.

re:Teesdale 5 managers a shift per mail centre! last week GMC had ten on night shift alone, so if 5 is the figure required can't wait to see the expressions on their faces if half of them are surplus to requirements (oh happy days) just as the old saying goes too many chiefs/line managers not enough posties ;let it be true (please)

We have 5 in our DO and its not a massive office it's a middle sized joint and you know what really gets on my pip not one of them can manage to do their job,if one of them did it would scare the c**p out of us.
