Need help....due to growth on my duty i have to prep the mail on the top of my frame.....i aint the biggest person in the world (5'4') but after months of doing this my frigging shoulder is killing me.....surely there is some sort of issue i can take up with my dom?

Sorry, not a health and safety rep, but I can tell you the very top (fifth up from the bench I presume we're talking about) should not be used for mail.

Packets only on that level.

Given your height you might ask how you're supposed to know that you've pulled all the mail out when you leave - I'm guessing you cant see that all the slots are clear?

thanks for that....so only packets on the very top!!! well i have the green fillets up there for each house approx 40 at the minute and more every other day. So i could have an a good case with the dom to get something done about it. already booking 20 minutes a day for growth!!!!

A possible short-term measure (sorry, no offence intended) while waiting for your DOM to get it sorted, might be to get a 6 footer to throw off the very top row. You in turn could throw off his bottom row.

Used to do this with D2D’s for one of our shorter guys. Reaching for the top row killed his arm and bending down for the bottom row crucified my back. No reason why this couldn’t be done with the mail as well. Just put it to one side when throwing off and swap frames when ready.

Hi why not ask your dom if he can have a wing fitted problem solved then also if you have no h&s rep contact the area rep.

Take out the green fillets, tell your DOM that the top level is not to be used for prepping mail, as mentioned in this thread, it is for packets, D2D items, Re-Direction cards, if he/she has a problem with this ask him/her to call the area H+S Rep for 'guidance'
Put all the mail for the top row you are currently using to the side everyday, then if possible prep into another section of the frame if the no.s run the same, if not find another frame to do this.
If this takes you over your time, then explain that you have to double handle the mail, and that a simple solution for them is to fix your frame, by either a wing added or if you have single no. slots, double a few of them up so that you can fit in the new section.
This can be done on A Plus.
If the DOM still is a complete n obber/ette then take it higher, plus stick in a greivence about the DOM saying that you have complained about the frame and it is also causing you discomfort when prepping the mail and nothing has been done.

How does this work?....Hope your DOM doesn't put you on a rack and stretch you! Seriously, as everyone else says, top row not for mail! Only ever seen it done once, but this guy was nearly 7ft, so had difficulty using the bottom row.

Can't believe you've been told to do this for months. It's against H+S proceedure because it presents a real risk of injury.
Go see your doctor and get the pain and reason for it put on your medical record. Also ask doctor for a note saying you should no longer be doing such movements due to muscular/skeletal injury. You never know if you have done long term damage to your shoulder and made need to make a future claim of negligence.

The GP is a good point - under the new "fit note" scheme that starts next week if your doc is thinking about signing you off due to the pain he/she can sign a fit note saying that "you may be fit to work subject to modifications" ie get the frame sorted out.

That would probably speed a fix up once it's clear that you can either be at work with a sorted frame or off work without!

It's common knowledge (or it should be) that the top of the frame should not be used for prepping letters as mentioned in this thread.

There is no need for docs,agreements or for brothermagrew to pay you guys a vist.
