"Inaccessible" Special

Hi,
Had a load of Specials recently, one to an unfamiliar address. Deserted shops, basically. No numbers, no Names similar to the one on the envelope.
Tried knocking/ringing, nothing at all.
Asked 5 different people working at 3 local shops, NO ONE knew which address/name/house etc. ( Some shops have 2 numbers, some only one, so using LOGIC didn't work.)

So, didn't put any N/A card thro, as I couldn't work out which was the CORRECT address. Returned it and labelled it as "address inaccessible."

Then, few days later, got dodgy call from Manager asking why it was returned, why no N/A card etc. Said I didn't want to be blamed for a Misdelivery, even if it was for a N/A
Explained it the best I could, but felt they didn't believe what occurred.

Went back to shop again, and searched, in my own time. Again, no numbers, names, indication which was the CORRECT address.
Haven't heard anything since, but my "Spidey Sense" is tingling...

Any advice welcomed, as think they'll try to use a "Delay of Mail" accusation. Gut feeling, 6th sense, whatever...

If you can't find it, it's not inaccessible is it? I would have took it back and just handed it to whoever was in charge. I get a few like that, usually just letters, and get told to leave them for the regular guy. How he does it I don't know. I had something for no. 180 when there is no no. 180. I asked him the next day and he says oh that 76. Different name, totally different number..
Now I just kill them off but if it was a special, I'd hand it to DOM.

Any vaguely addressed specials I would endorse it as address incomplete/so such address as appropriate and hand it back to the locker. They should only be delivered as addressed if they don't have a proper address I can't deliver it so what's the point in taking it out?

Yeah, think that inaccessible might not have been the correct designation, but...on afterthought, might have endorsed it as something else.

However, the address on the envelope: 1.Might be wrong, 2.only be known by the local postperson or 3.not exist at all.

The DOM on at AM probably knows the address ( Been in the job 20yrs ) but I didn't !!!

So, if the cack hits the fan, I'll probably question the 3 points I raised above, but at the end of the day, I couldn't find it. End of...

The fact is you are not paid to be a detective nor do you have the time it is for the re precipitant not you to make themselves known.

Don't worry yourself about it!! If you can't find it you can't find it simples!! Or if the place doesn't exist just kill it off! People worry to much these days!!

I myself would have endorsed it " unable to trace" and handed it back to the locker

lots of dodgy folks just have accomdation addresses----hence the no lived in look. Always leave a shut notice though, to cover your own back.

shouldn't you just inform the lino straight away, and get him to sort it out. he's the one paid to think.

Should've been endorsed as address incomplete, marked on your delivery card/PDA as such and handed back to the RLE at the end of the shift. If they then want to try and find the correct address by looking on t'interweb/Postcodes online etc then fine, then give it back to you to reattempt delivery with a new address on.

Had a SD birthday card a couple of weeks ago addressed to No44, street only goes up to 32.

Told the gaffer and said it may be no7, but I wasnt 100% sure. He told me to kill it off and return to the PHG, which I did.

Found out from his next door neighbour it was for No7, told her to tell him about the Special if she seen him, as no doubt he'd probably think the worst.

Asked the regular postie, he wasn't too sure either. Place he suggested I asked at, and they said, "Not here!"

Gone quiet now, thank the Lord...
