will finishing later effect you?

i am often late finishing wed thur and fri anything from 10 mins to an hour maybe but under the new hours this will cause me a problem because if my new finishing time is 3 and i am over my time i will not be able to finish my round has i have to pick my 2 kids up from school so will have to call it a day at 3 and take the rest back to the office
i just wondered does this effect many others with kids or second jobs etc

Thousands,and to be completely honest IF i have to work till 3 i may have to jack the whole thing in.
But never mind because it's all about protecting full-time jobs....just not yours or mine or the thousands of others with commitments after 2.30.

Of course such things as o/t may also be affected, I remember in our office this winter someone pouching bundles of mail off because it had gone dark and he couldn't see where he was going - I nearly pissed myself laughing when I heard that one. Later starts mean this may become commonplace because, if my office is anything to go by, RM just haven't got enough staff to cover the daily workload without relying on a fair amount of o/t. And of course less and less people will be interested in working till 5-6pm pounding the streets after being flogged on their own duties, but again, this is something else RM appear blind to.

yes I agree. Health and safety, a big thing to be looking at i think. i have had to do the same last year.

I am afraid working in the dark is not deemed a Health & Safety issue in isolation.
If it is properly risk assessed and the correct equipment is supplied it's acceptable.
After all we all used to deliver in the dark at one point...just at the other end of the day.

Maybe its about protecting the mail centre's job ? Ohh wait a minute, the CWU leaders have agreed with RM and are going to close lots of mail centres too, so it cant be them either...I wonder just who's job is being protected in this agreement ? Billy, Bob & Dave's jobs perchance ?

I,ve been led to beleive that,although alot of D.O. dutys will become later last letter,there will remain a percentage of early start dutys. A delivery office cannot function by everyone starting at 7.00 am or whenever.Does that mean, in any revision,that these dutys can be given to people with childcare,or any other care issues for that matter.Seniority apart,i beleive RM are obliged to consider such issues,e.g. suitability of postman to duty and vice-versa.
If you were allocating dutys on a family friendly basis, RM,s words,not mine,then surely this must be taken into account.
Please, if there is anyon.e out there who knows RMs legal obligation,if they have one,it would be most helpful

Dont think RM actually have an "Obligation" as such. They have an "obligation" to look at Family Friendly, but not an "obligation" to do anything about it.

Citizens Advice told me that.

I'll be bladdered cos er indoors goes to work at 2pm, and one of my kids needs picked up at 3.15. So during the school holidays what am I supposed to do??

And at 2.45 I'll be making my return to the office with anything left over if we have vans, 2.30 if we dont.

Of course all this is dependant on a YES vote, which they wont be getting from me.

I have been told tho,from a rep, that they HAVE to accomadate people with EXISTING childcare issues,even if that means in another office.Don,t know how true this is?

we were told today in a meeting that if you dont want to do 7-3 then we dont have to it just means that they may transfer us to another office where e can work the time that suits us

I took this job so I could be at home for when my kids need picking up from school and that works fine at the moment.If the times change due to a yes vote(HOPEFULLY NOT............I WOULD BE VOTING NO IF I COULD)then I would be well and truly stuck due to the later finish.This really does and has pee'd me off to put it very mildly.
If it is a late finish then I won't be there to pick one of my kids up from school and won't be home for the other ones return which i suppose would ultimately mean paying a child minder until I arrive home.Something I don't want to do and cant really afford as they already go to the child minder 3 mornings a week when my wife goes to work so this would be possibly an extra £40 to £50 a week we would need to find and then there's the extra cost of car parking I would have to find on a daily basis.
I do at the moment do the round in my car but also need my car to get to work due to the distance I live away from my workplace so although the cost of my petrol will go down I can't see the cost of the parking matching it ,it is likely to cost more.
So that would be two lots of costs that I don't have at the moment to come out of a suppose pay rise (THAT ISN'T A PAY RISE).GREAT!!!!!........NOT!!!! and all this at the back end of a recesion.
A VERY BIG THANKYOU TO THE ROYAL MAIL FOR PUTTING ITS WORKERS FIRST AND REMAINING FAMILY FRIENDLY.
I'm just glad I am working on a route out of this SH&% HOLE.

Even if you could do these so called hours even on Saturday they would only change the goal post yet once again till none of us could is this not a case of constructive dismissal for all the amount of change would be intolerable for all in the time space or is the plan change for the sake of change?.

Depending on where you are,if your area is a 3 O'Clock last letter,you can have 2:30 finish time, with 15 mins back to the DO and 15mins pouching off at the DO,so you finish at 3.
You could even put that forward 30mins,you could put 30mins of your meal break at the end and finish everything at 2:30.

4 O'Clock last letter you could finish at 3:30 if that's any good.
