doing away with seniority

has any office has there seniority done away with my mate who is a postie in essex leigh on sea had theres reversed so all the senior posties got last choice on the holidays for next year ,what will they think of next . i reckon they have managment sit in offices thinking what can we do next to piss the postman off

Seniority should not be used for A/L pick since a ruling in a European Court of Law which deemed this as unfair to new entrants. Anyone who still has it should keep their mouths closed about it

We were told at a meeting a number of months ago by an area manager that once car/van derived walks were implemented that seniority would ultimately go.
At the moment i think that RM are just throwing as much s**t at ft staff as is possible to make it that unbearable that they think you will just leave without them having to make any payout. That way incorporating their philosophy of a pt workforce.

Started a rolling system in our office this year. Groups that rotate. Thoses who get first choice this year move to bottom next year. Fair to everyone

That's how it is at our office johnnyrocker, but the problem now is that they will only allow six ft workers off on the same week which is creating major problems when it comes to the man plan. Ultimately they have said on a few occasions we might have to draw names out of a hat.

Well how is it that reserves don't get saturday off unless they fight over the issue.

That's how we do it in my DO , however I'm halfway down the list so don't benefit

In our office it rotates with seniority get first pick one year, juniority the next. Which to me seems a fair a way as any.

Don't know how your office runs but whatever thier seniority, part/time full time etc in our office, we ALL have to fight to get a saturday off. So many people have left now there's not enough folks around to do all the work as it is without people having time off too

With regards to seniority for CDVs well the guidelines have almost been agreed by the CWU. Of course the CDV duties will have to have a driver so some duties will be restricted from signing for.

Am I reading this right, you want people who are crap at their job to walk away with a pocket full of money and leave those who can do the job behind to absorb all the extra work?

Yep thats right, used to be on age and seniority, now it's seniority only.
