All i can see in the latest Courier is "generous discounts"on Vauxhalls, but that looks like for purchasing not leasing, and must be something of a joke for any of us that's driven a Royal Mail Vauxhall Combo van.
Try geting by without a car - it's much healthier and saves a small fortune. :Very Happy

Not very helpful when your Mum is in a care home 90 miles away and the nearest railway station id 125 miles from her, and we all know how reliable public transport is, perhaps I'll have to resort to borrowing an RM van :no no

What about using the train+bike? If it takes 4 hours that means your about 40-50 miles from your office assuming an average speed of around 10 miles per hour or a bit under, there must be a train station you can cycle to that will take you to a station near to your office; even if it still means you have to spend 2 hours cycling. It's better than nothing and cheap/good for your health.

Are you serious? Ive done the train journey and It takes nearly 2 hours due to 3 train changes.I t would take over half an hour to my nearest train station by bike or well over an hour..I have done it to the direct train station which would take 45 mins journey.Take your pick. Then there just happens to be the cost of the train, which I cpould not afford compared to the car.If you think Im going to cycle for 2 hours into work ,do a ridiculos walk then cycle 2 hours to get home, you must be a dim  Im around 35 miles from my office, but average speed due to some of the hills I would have to climb does put it at around 4 hour journey.

Car paid for.zero cost.Brother is a mechanic with cars, zero or very cheap maintainance costs.Train fare return for the year over 2k,fuel with daily and weekend use just over the grand mark. Also time factor with car.Im not faffing about for bike/train/bus or whatever so called green transport you seem to love for hours on end in my own time when I can do the journey to and from work in around an hour give or take. Why did i get a job so far?Ive been with RM for nearly 15 years and I used to live 3 miles from my office.Since one of my kids had a life threating accident in which he nearly died and has since left him quadrapledric,we needed to move to be near his specalist hospital and carers. Now I have a journey time to see him off only 20 mins, there and backinstead of a trip that used to take us due to traffic etc up to 3 hours return trip.We moved yes,but when people harp on about we have to use this that and get out of the car they never seem to do understand other people may just not be able to use public transport.I have been on a transfer for over 3 years now and RM dosent seem to take this into consideration and neither does the union..So Miss Negative, does that answer your question why I will not use public transport and if you come up with a better alternative Im all ears.
p.s just got a bus timetable through the door with my freebie paper.First bus leaves my stop in the morning at 7.55 am to go to station(terminus).Suppose thats ok when we start at 11am or mid day.Cost per month, bus pass 97 quid! and they dont run Sundays.Car Vs public transport=no contest, where I live.

I've just realised your not even original poster, I've been trying to suggest a means of getting to work on the basis that your car is fooked when it isn't :d'oh! I'm sorry if I caused offence with the mr negative remark, you wasn't being negative you were just stating a perfectly justifiable reason for using a car to get to work.
