What a pathetic reason to vote yes, there is only no plan B because HQ and Royal Mail both want you to vote for plan A,
If this agreement is rejected you will be surprised just how quickly a plan B appears from nowhere and if there truly is no plan B i would expect to see the resignations of ALL those involved within hours of a rejection
Only the most short-sighted moronic idiots would not have contemplated a NO vote and made plans to move on from that position.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Absolutley right Fishtank. There will be a Plan B and no doubt with the way CWU are trying to stuff this down our throats, Plan B will mean financial loss for the CWU heirarchy, but will provide some improvement over the original deal for us, so I say everybody Vote No and see what comes of it. I cannot see that we can be worse off, because this agreement gives Royal Mail free reign anyway.

Re: visit from area union rep
that's the message we've been fed too. basically RM management told us that if we don't agree the offer will be withdrawn and they will press on with the changes regardless. not sure how they would do that with 85% of the work force on strike??! we were also told that we could accept the deal and fight again in 3 years time!! BTW when asked, our office rep said he would be voting 'no'

Re: visit from area union rep
Rite i do not agree with this agreement and will be voting NO....
Reason i have said this is that im about to say things some folk wont like and may think im in favour of the agreement.
The two issues we are pissed off about are the D2Ds and longer saturdays YES . What we have to do is try to look beyond the here and now and see 5.10 years ahead.
What the union have done on these two issues , in the light of things is the correct way to protect F/T jobs.
You all know that D2Ds are going to be included in our daily workload ( good thing) Why because a 100% call rate has to be included in the geo-route software never did before . The Impact is a longer indoor workload that R/M are saying once the WSM is up and running its going to cut even more time out of our indoor work.
There has been since 98 a 9% drop in contracts of D2D .TNT have now over taken us as the biggest distributor and they believe this trend will continue. In certain parts of the country there are offices that dont get any D2Ds anymore as R/M themselves have ceased doing them due to the amount of compensation they were paying out for none deliveries to the companies whos contracts they were. So does the union wait to see if this trend continues ,if it does do you think R/M will offer £20.60 into basic pay paid 52 weeks a year or does the union secure that payment for us now.
In this deal R/M wanted to give us a one off yearly payment of £400 with the limited lifted and they didnt want to discuss that .In the end what the union have done is it better than the £400 R/M were going to offer, when you consider the reasons the CWU have done this and the long term impact its going to have. Ive worked out what i would lose on D2D its £1380 over the year tally up how much service i have left and it comes to £37000 lot a money isnt it.
Also what the CWU should have done is contact every branch ,who would of asked every unit rep for a list of people in there office that do D2DS (no less than 200 calls) and there names could have been sent off to HQ who then could have divided the D2D money equally to those that do them. Its not rite everyone should get that payment and for these reasons i can not vote YES regardless of how it seems i come across. Saturdays cant get me head around that one very dissappointed in the union doing this. I still think the union should go back to the table now before we get our ballot papers next week and change it as they are fully aware of how its members feel on these matters .Will they like shite they will ,they dont even have a plan B if it is rejected. But im staying put in the union R/M are hoping people leave in there droves how do you think they are going to lose 24,000 jobs over 3 years with no compulsary redundancies. They will be sacking people left right and centre
Anyway going to end on a history note The union in the Post (not the cwu) was set up by the workers after John barrett was hanged he was the last postman to be hung in england he was hanged for will full delay of the queens mail.

Re: visit from area union rep
They are not the only issues Monkeyboy. The agreement to have delivery spans in excess of 3.5 hours is far more important to me, and I would have thought most posties as they begin to age. And the fact that performance standards will be to the top 10% means that RM have cart blanche rights to manage out people with under performance. That means 90% will be subject to such rituals and this is how they will achieve job losses without redundancy costs. For any Union to have negotiated that is an absolute disgrace to the membership that pays its wages.

Re: visit from area union rep
agree with you totally monkeyboy, we all knew they wanted us to do extra door to doors but why do people who dont do them get paid? im a foot postman so why dont i get a drivers allowance as part of this deal too then if drivers get the money which is effectively door to door money. This too is the reason I will vote no and the other reason is I dont like the way royal mail offered us a £400 of our dividend and made it out to sound like its something special.

Linx i now these are not the only sticking points but they are one of the mains nor do i like the sound of having do delivery span time its just open to abuse.

Re: visit from area union rep
Then of course there is the no strike clause, the far too airy fairy wording of the agreement EXCEPT when it comes to how the union and Royal Mail are both committed to the speedy and exacting roll out of the agreement.MoNkEyBoY wrote:Linx i now these are not the only sticking points but they are one of the mains nor do i like the sound of having do delivery span time its just open to abuse.
There is nothing in this agreement that protects jobs, in fact we are going to go from a national split of 79/21 to 75/25?- or should I say AROUND 75/25 and redundancies - well this is before the roll out of mechanisation and sequencing but the wording says try to avoid compulsory redundancy NOT there will be NO compulsory redundancy - the proof of the pudding is in the wording.
The biggest drawbacks for me on the whole of this agreement is the new working relationship of the union and Royal Mail and the unfounded hope that we can trust them to be honourable in negotiating and if they aren't? what? IA - no that is ruled out certainly in principle - well then there is ACAS ho hum - they are going to gum Royal Mail to death - professional chatterers nothing more nothing less.

Re: visit from area union rep
So in effect areas with a history on litttle or no d2d get a pay rise whilst popular d2d areas get a pay cut and an increase in d2d deliveries .......inequality written all over it
Mildred: Hey Johnny, what are you rebelling against?
Johnny: Whadda you got?
