Hi all
I've applied for a couple of postman jobs in my area but they are only part time (25hours). Is there scope to make the hours up to full time? or is that the lot?

You will probably get the chance of a lot of overtime like i do,but in terms of a full time contract you have absolutly no chance as the only way upwards is by means of seaniority so it dont matter how commited and enthusiastic and flexible you are there is always 100s in the q in front of you its very frustrating but thats how it is. just grab the ot when its there.

As above if you want to make up the money then you will have to do overtime
. The partimers in my office book an hour a day from weds on just to complete thier delivery & absorbtion.Once you get the job
Also once you have bedded in and got used to the exercise try to see if they will let you become a RM driver. It may take a while but keep on asking as it gives you more options for duties and opens up driving overtime in the afternoons.

think positive, full time hours= management. i think they work a system previously known as job and knock.saturdays are optional

Thanks for the info guys, I'll bear it in mind if i get offered the job. Really I need full time work to pay the bills but if I could get some idea on what the average earnings might be that would be helpful.

Around £176 per week after tax for 25 hours, that includes a CWU and pension sub, it will be around £185 without. Was my old wage since I left the crap job.

I have been offered the job and I'm very keen to give it a go. I'm just hoping to get the opportunity to up the income to around the £200 mark by working longer hours. I'm hoping when my contract arrives I will get more info. Is overtime paid at 1.5 or just standard rate? Also is there much opportunity of being took on after 6 months?

For P/T overtime is paid at the flat rate till you reach 40 hours.

Now I am about to quote a national agreement but that reply is funny ! If the new national agreement kicks in,(big if). Then the Way forward in terms of vacancies still holds the field.That means if there are any vacancies in that office,it goes up.That office should not of allowed a part timer to take a full time position.However,we are hoping that the new deal clears some of the s**t away.
If it does,than thay are looking for a 75% full time and 25% part time work force nationaly. There-fore if there is a vacancy within that office then it goes up for signing,and that vacancy should be a full time one.
You might get it under the seniority ruling(in which,also still holds the field).
