4 day week

can someone enlighten me please as to how a 4 day week works?
my delivery office is 130 staff, and i know a few folk would entertain a 4 day week, so how does it work please.

It should work like this

Week 1 - Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday
In In Off Off In In

Week 2 - Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday
In In In In Off Off

Week 3 - Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday
Off Off In In In In

This means every 3 weeks, you get 5 days off in a row. The days will be 10 hours.

When we go down to 39 hours, it could work out that weekdays are 10 hours, and the 2 saturdays that you work will be 8 and a half hours.

This would total 117 hours over the 3 weeks.

We have 2 lots of staff doing 4 day weeks at our spot. They usually start about 5 ish and finishing time is 3 ish. Usually do a walk and a half each or during heavy days a walk and a third. The ones doing them seem to enjoy it but its hard work and a long day.

What you have to remember is with a 4 day week comes 10 hr days.
Now if last letter is 1500 you could maybe stretch this to 1530 with travelling then you would have to start at 0500 or 0530 at the latest.
The next question is will there be enough work in your office at 0500/0530 to justify your office starting at that time?
In my opinion when walk sequenced mail is fully rolled out very few offices will be able to sustain 4 day weeks.

Full day Saturdays
Saturdays become part of ‘standardised 6 day workplan’
1500 last letter residential and 1600 rural
Delivers full sequencing on Mon-Sat
Commitment to at least 1 in 4 Saturdays off for the majority of delivery staff

A 4 day week on part time would be best. Do any offices do this?

your right, sounds an awfully long day especially when there are extremes of weather.

Ten hour days is prob a young mans game. I feel past it

i end up doing ten hours at least once a week. it's hard, but i can cope if end up with more time off to recover from it. i can't get anything done with just the one day off at a time. i live for the long weekends where i can have a bit of a life,visit my daughter, or have her up for the weekend, enjoy the football, get stuff done in the garden, proper house cleaning, and general unexhausted socialising.

so your saying a walk and a half each.....that 5 and a quarter hours walking..jeeeeezzuusss. that aint never right what a bum deal.what about toilet breaks, bad weather, you cant be expected to go that long and we were told its a 7 am start. so with no sorting what time are we supposed to finish.

If i were you in your office i would be very weary of going on a 4 day week .

I thought a 4 day week was great and i was in the process of preparing examples for the lads in work then i thought about.

Your day would be 9hr 35 mins you will also work 6 days before your next 2 days fall. The only bonus i could see if it worked the way i beleived it would is every 3 weeks you will be getting 5 days off. Something to bear in mind R/M are saying that theres less and less indoor work load take into account the impact the WSM will have ,IF any and your delivery span will be some were in the region of 6.5-7 hrs long.

How many walks do you have in your office at present and what will the impact be going on a 4 day week regarding how many walks you will end up with considering you will be on much longer delivery spans.

On the saturdays were they are saying its a going to be a normal working day well fine they can have it that way but i will make sure that they will be using the hours we are on monday/tuesday the short days. Ive attached a spreadsheet for a 4 day week for you to have a look at.
