still no answer about later saturdays
our rep who was at the meeting at glasgow is telling us what a great deal this is but does'nt have an answer to the problem of later saturdays.
this problem about saturdays just wont go away but there is still no good reason why posties should have their weekends ruined by people who dont work on this day ie the union.
it would be great if someone in authority on this subjest could post an explanation.

Good luck mate, I've been banging on about it for 2 weeks now and nobody's given me an answer as to why its neccasary to change so many peoples lifestyles. For this reason alone its a no vote regardless of anything else in the proposed agreement.mailman71 wrote:our rep who was at the meeting at glasgow is telling us what a great deal this is but does'nt have an answer to the problem of later saturdays.

Re: still no answer about later saturdays
Anybody that poses the question, "Saturday to become a normal working day, why for feck's sake???" will not get a satisfactory answer, ever.
Why?
Because there is no valid reason why a postman/woman should be trudging the streets delivering shyte beyond 1pm, that's why.

Re: still no answer about later saturdays
RM have bought their fancy walk sorting machines.
They don't want them sitting idle on Saturday morning so they want to run them 6 days a week.
Although lightning fast they make the mail arrive later at your DO. Later start = later finish.
I believe this was one of the things the CWU had to concede for the talks to continue (you'd have to check the postings from those in the know).
But although we have to work later on Saturday the CWU managed to secure a commitment to fewer Saturdays.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

DSA is first class mail, people cut off on saturdays or are told to stream it & it gets left, - that is admitted on this site so it must go on.singingpostman wrote:Good luck mate, I've been banging on about it for 2 weeks now and nobody's given me an answer as to why its neccasary to change so many peoples lifestyles. Quite simply - if people didn't cut off & completed , i dont think the Saturdays would of been an issue, unless anyone from the CWU
wants to elaborate on another reason or i've missed something obvious ( D2D specific day del etc)

I reckon its to do with the 1 in 4 off, the postie who is off as to have is walk covered so it looks like others in the office will have to prep and deliver it, plus D2Ds, may be wrong but its the only reason I can see for it

Re: still no answer about later saturdays
Mate, at a meeting in Paisley in November I asked a Scottish EC member if Royal Mail saw Saturday as a normal working day. His answer was 'they do but we most certainly dont, and thats going to be a major sticking point'
At the Glasgow briefing no one had mentioned Saturdays well into the meeting so I asked Ward and Gibson when a 'major sticking point' became a total sell out regarding Saturdays for Delivery staff. I also told them i'm not remotely interested in 1 in 4 off if the other 3 were three o'clock finishes.
Sorry to say that alongside the usual stuff about innovative attendance patterns Gibson's answer was 'the majority of deliveries will finish by 2.30'
Sorry Bob, thats not good enough and I wouldnt vote for it myself never mind try and sell it to my troops.

Hi be careful over saturdays we was told today if you take your break off it will be 2.20pm finish, one guy asked the area rep does this union not want its members to have a social life at the weekends what a answer he got it was "do you want a job or not" i am using my NO vote then leaving the union. one word that crops up in the agreement is trust its a crying shame that we cannot trust our union or royal mail now.

What I would like to know is where Bob Gibson gets his information from, how on earth does he know what time the deliveries on Saturday will be completed -laudrup11 wrote:Mate, at a meeting in Paisley in November I asked a Scottish EC member if Royal Mail saw Saturday as a normal working day. here is what the agreement says - 6 day working week INCLUDING Staurdays, finish times 1500 Urban, 1600 Rural - and the words are what the agreement will be implemented on NOT Bob Gibsons assurance from a stage in Glasgow selling snake oil.

Re: still no answer about later saturdays
Had a briefing from the DOM this morning about the agreement. He said Saturday will be a normal day 3/4pm finish. The call rate will likely to be 100% because of the D2D's. TBH he did'nt seem very enthusiastic about the agreement, probably because he and the LM's are going to have to stay longer on a Saturday. He also mentioned all current full time staff will start no later than 7am. He had no answer to the the 1 in 4 Saturdays off.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

Well,if the majority of us will be starting at 0700 and that is more or less conceded.
And saturday is to be a "normal working day" as has been conceded.
And we have to "work the hours we are paid" as has been conceded.
How can most of us be finished before 1400 and the vast majority by 1430?
I am no genius but even i can see the flaw in that argument.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Re: still no answer about later saturdays
The 1 in 4 Saturdays must be self financing - I don't know if anyone noticed that little fillip so if you fancy doing a third of a fourth duty in addition to your own on a Saturday - not a problem, if you don't - well the 1 in 4 Sats will be maximised, and that means you don't do the lapsed duty you don't get the Saturday.Stormproof wrote:Had a briefing from the DOM this morning about the agreement. Re: still no answer about later saturdays
Is one of the parts of the unions do the job properly campaign not take meal relief prior to going out on delivery. Am I going to be forced to add my meal relief on at the end just so that I can finish before 3pm. To be honest, it's a joke and the only thing that would get me to even consider voting yes, is every other saturday off. But that isn't going to happen. 1 in 4? Great, but the other 3 weekends are pretty much ruined.ldsposti wrote:Hi be careful over saturdays we was told today if you take your break off it will be 2.20pm finish, one guy asked the area rep does this union not want its members to have a social life at the weekends what a answer he got it was "do you want a job or not" i am using my NO vote then leaving the union. one word that crops up in the agreement is trust its a crying shame that we cannot trust our union or royal mail now.

To be fair mate quoting from the actual agreement - 'The vast majority of letter deliveries are planned to be completed by 1430 hours and most by 1400 hours'fishtank wrote:laudrup11 wrote:

Still not good enough for me im afraid - my DO is one of the furthest in our area from the mail centre and will probably be one of the latest starts, hence latest finishes
