Could we join UNITE

I don't understand the legalities but thought it might be worth finding out.
As UNITE is already a recognised national union, by Royal Mail. Would it be possible for OPG’s etc. to join UNITE and be represented by them. I’m not saying join the CMA part of UNITE, there must be other prts of this union we would fit inwith.
I’m sorry if this seems to simplistic as I don’t understand how these super unions work but surely if UNITE are accepted by Royal Mail to represent Management grades, then Royal Mail would have to accept them representing non management grades or it would be discriminatory.

If it was possible to become a member of UNITE instead of the CWU, would it be an option people might consider?

Why not get in touch with Unite and ask ?
Remember their are aspects of all organisations that will not sit right with everyone. We may feel the CWU is letting us down at the moment but we have no idea what Unite or any other union think about this deal. It may to them seem like the "deal of the century".
Managers are the same whether they are managing a business or a trade union.

It may be possible but could or would UNITE as a Union support us if we requested a strike and the CMA section refused to support it. You would have a case of divided interests for UNITE as a Union and this would deflect the Union from outright backing any dispute because of the conflict of interest.

Also it would give the Media a field day and you would see stories about UNITE failing to control their own, UNITE being split by internal divisions, you would see the extreme left calling UNITE a sell out Union for supporting managers against workers etc etc.

On an individual basis I cant see a problem, until the CWU or CMA go on strike. But a mass movement to UNITE, no, can't see them accepting us.

I asked about UNITE as Royal Mail already recognise them, and I would presume have to recognise them if they negotiated for non management grades.
If we joined UNISON, I assume Royal Mail would refuse to recognise them as they would have less than the required percentages to force them to legally.

unison are for public services
i think we are they are recognised by NHS, POLICE<COUNCILS all govt. owned as are we

Could we join UNITE?
What on earth for? UNITE have expressed many times that they "understand that BA have to cut costs", Modernisation is what RM calls excessive cost-cutting.
UNITE members in BA will be sold out, they will get significantly less than they are currently striking for, and I heard yesterday that Brendan Barber is about to stick his oar in.
We would be no better off. If a union loses sight of the fact that it's their members term & conditions that are first priority, it is of no use whatsoever to those members.
Once, if ever, we get back to a situation where businessmen tend to problems that are business orientated, and union officials tend to problems that have an adverse effect on their members, unions will become more relevant, and not less relevant, as seems the case with the CWU.
