ok here is a message for all those who wish to explain to us why the agreement is a good thing
if it was a good thing it would not need explaining
we live in a new age where all the information is available at the touch of a button, the days of listening to what your branch or rep tells you about it are gone we now have all the information to make up our own minds
these are the points I feel are important to me ( others may have different issues or views) about this deal
1. esa we were told was protected for LIFE by 'grandfather' rights - not until the next pay discussion - for life that was the understanding of the majority of delivery posties that received it
2. A 20.60 supplement for unlimited d2d's was never going to go down well with any postie - they are a pain in the arse, BUT we do realise it is one of the few growth markets left - we get that - what we don't get is why we are being asked to deliver more for less
3. The current level of spending on d2d has been used in determining what the new rate will be - with the cap lifted RM will earn more from them, that is a fact, so why are we being asked to earn less?
4. The pro rata part is the a major factor in why this in unpopular - if RM/CWU thought that full timers would not care that the p/t staff were gonna be paid less than them for this they are wrong, we were all ag's at one time we know what it is to struggle on a p/t wage, most of stuck with it as there was the promise of a f/t contract eventually - this seems now to be gone add to that we work side by side with p/t posties everyday, we will not swallow this
5. There are many p/t members that will vote no with good reason - why if you currently earn around 30- 40 a week for d2d would you accept a deal that gives you £15? this is one of the areas where they can bump up the basic pay
6. The £400 'carrot' we get for accepting this deal was due to us in june anyway under the colleagueshare plan it has simply been moved forward, indeed we were promised this could be worth up to £5000 by next year! now we get a fragmented £1000 and two sums of around £550 for 2011, 2012 by my sums that is half what we were told never mind that they were part of a previous deal! Trying to sell us half the value of colleagueshares dressed up as bonuses in a new deal is frankly insulting
7. The new agreement is as, if not more vague than the 2007 one. Those of us that have seen how that deal was interpreted and implemented are rightly loathe to accept any deal that does not have clear and defined guidelines - fool us once, shame on you, fool us twice shame on us - it won't happen again
8. Don't tell us we have to accept this deal even if it is bad because there is nothing else on the table - that is not a reason to accept, it is blackmail, this is my job that I have to do everyday I will decide if the deal is good enough
9. If we accept these concessions now what more will be asked of us next time? we are at breaking point ( in deliveries anyway) , we cannot take any more cost cutting
In conclusion I have read the agreement it is vague, open to abuse and unacceptable to me on so many levels that I cannot vote for it and frankly by MY union telling me that this is the best they can get after I and my colleagues supporting them by striking, losing money and then waiting 4 months - for this???
Wake up and shake up CWU hierarchy - you work for us we do not work for you
we as a union will decide if this deal is acceptable and as far as this member is concerned it is not
If the majority share my view we expect you to get back in with RM and bring us a deal worth voting for
If you can't or won't then frankly you are not worth the money we are paying you
do not tell us what we should think about this deal - LISTEN to us your members and exactly what we think about this deal
I would therefore urge every single postie to read all of it and decide for themselves if it benefits all RM employees and vote accordingly
rant over!

Your first point undoes the rest
Exactly. This is the biggest problem we face. And 'every single postie' doesn't read this forum. As in 2007, the YES vote will go through.we live in a new age where all the information is available at the touch of a button

every single postie might not read this forum but they might know someone who does

Re: A Message to the CWU
This agreement promises NOTHING. It's is nothing but a set of vaguely worded proposals. It need to be explicit and must set out concrete rules.
The inputs for Pegasus are not determined and RM can implement (after the workshops) whatever data they want. The parameters are crucial, must not be locally adjusted and must be agreeded before a new vote.
The Agreement protects not the staff but the CWU. However if you trust RM to allow you more input without them comitting to that in unambiguous language you are soft in the head.
The future RM funding of CWU makes the Union reliant on RM whim. That is an unacceptable and dangerous alliance. Union must remain financially independant. Take a pay cut - like us?
