What if on your walk, your bag catches on a gate or someones garden lamp and causes damage? Who is responsible and has to pay the damage? The postie or Royal Mail? Just wondered because this has happened to me a few times, fortunately no damage

Well, I would say that RM would be liable as you're at work and they're insuring you at work. However, that doesn't mean that RM wouldn't bring "charges" against you for the damage caused!

How do I know - in first year I tried to put a packet that I thought could go through the letter box but it jammed tried to pull it out and the whole fitting came out. Left a note after rebuilding as much as I could of the LB. Told my manager and the customer claimed from Royal Mail.

I've broken several letter boxes in my career. To my knowledge RM has never paid a penny in compensation.

Neither. It's the owner who pays for damage to bag, due to their inconsiderate planting of ridiculous garden lamps, plant pots etc. Some of them have no sense. Why put a plant pot on the step that you have to step on to reach letterbox? Why put stuff in front of the letterbox? Why the heck put a b***** pair of hanging plants baskets, one either side of the front door?

I know!!! There's a few houses with boxes on the walls outside and they hang bloody hanging baskets in front of them!! Plus, I'm only a short arse, so I have to stretch up anyway.

There's another box which is on the inside of a locked gate, reasonably high up and I end up looking into the sun while trying to put mail in. Past few days I've had to bring mail back because their box doesn't shut because they haven't locked it properly... a few of their letters from the other day are in their yard.

one of the guys i work with hit a conservitory with van , others have hit sheep god knows what else its rm that deal with it

royal mail they insure you,end of.although rm may wish to take a disciplinary against you for carelessness ,which if i was representing you,would be shoved up their arses.
