ROYAL MAIL WILL GO BUST!?

Post by mr deeds »

We all know that we are in the deepest s**t i/we have ever known....but i still think when we get the election over rm will go under (bust)the mp's that backed the anti privatization will have there hands tied and we will be on our kneee's...they will use this as a "we have no other option than fully privatize the industry to save thousands of jobs...this is the perfect excuse for them to do us over .

what ever anyone thinks our union leadership is weak they should be voted off they have basicly given every delivery postman a pay cut

shame on them

VOTE NO AND MAKE THE UNION WORK FOR YOU

How can a government business go bust????? I think you mean that we will get privatised with no choice and the government will pick up or pension deficit. I think everyone will have to look else where regards pensions. I won't really matter whether we say yes or no. The same outcome will happen Privatisation.

Isn't the systematic destruction of royal mail the long term goal? From what I can see they are trying to run it into the ground so it can be sold off.I even made this comment to a manager who agreed. In actual fact the managers reply was 'if I'd joined now I wouldn't stay'.

I am a subscriber to some conspiracy theories, but your 'logic' is somewhat like Del Trotter trying to convince someone to buy anti-elephant powder.
'Tell me, why would I need anti-elephant powder ? I've never seen any elephants around this area' says the dubious customer
'That's why you should buy it. This powder is 100% effective, Sir' says Del Boy :cool

If you want to sell something off, you try to make it attractive to buyers. You don't do that by 'running it into the ground'. If you're trying to sell your car, you don't smash the windscreen just before the buyer comes to view it. Or do you ?

I can't see how giving RM £1bn to buy new machinery and fooling a trade union into accepting a pay cut for the majority of it's staff can possibly be called 'running it into the ground'. I'd say those two things do help make the business more attractive to potential investors, but with the huge pension deficit, it's little wonder Mandelson couldn't find a buyer.

The pension 'black hole' is - ironically - the thing that almost guarantees that we WON'T be privatised !!!!

You really don't have a clue about buying and acquisitions do you? The objective is to systematically destroy a profitable business so that you can pick it up for peanuts. It's been going on since the year dot.

And please don't give me the conspiracy pish,I'm a grown assed man.I subscribe to none of them.

Anyway, remember this post when it happens and an agency guy on minimum wage is delivering the mail.

I don't subscribe to conspiracy views and from a commercial view I can see how your post makes sense. However, if you move it into the Political arena its not that far fetched.

The first moves have already been done the Lord Meddlesome tried to Part Privatise us, or did he perhaps it was just beating exercise to scare out the anti side.

Anyway the scenario goes:

Bring in "competition" which is badly out of skew and all the burdens are placed on RM especially the expensive USO. Make RM take the competitions own mail at a loss as it will generate real competition.

Later on attempt a false privatisation but get defeated. This helps find out who is against it.

The next stage would be to generate industrial unrest under the guise of Modernisation, this would make the workforce look militant and against modernisation. It would be even better if you could get the majority of the press printing anti RM stories to get the public behind the idea that RM is declining and needs rescuing.

Restart privatisation but say the offers are too small because of the pension deficit and come galloping to the rescue and say the government will take on the pension as long as RM is privatised completely.

TNT or DHL then buy out RM for slightly less than the market price and the Government take on the Pension Liabilities, and more importantly its assets.

Good post Headscrewedon, but you're wasting your time with analogies like that. The mantra of "they're running RM into the ground" has been repeated so often on here that it's now accepted without question by most, even though the value of RM's capital assets hasn't been altered by recent policies or events.

RM run out of money in April 2011?

Don't mean to shatter your illusions , but RM is already part privatised and becoming more so every week. Just because they call it DSA doesn't change the fact that it is in reality privatisation and subsidised privatisation to boot.

Whatever happens one thing is true. A YES vote on this agreement will make RM far more attractive for privitisation. A workforce pushed beyond it's limits should be profitable. If you add ontop of that managers ability to fire anyone not meeting top 10% performance you have a DREAM company where you can burn staff into the ground then hire and fire to get in new blood. As for wages, our 3 year pay freeze (that's what it will likely be in real terms) is the start of RM cutting our wages by 25%. Get out now if you can, if you can't fight these rapists.

Agreed ,and unlimited D2D and Unlimited walk spans is the start of RM upping our workload by 40%.

Why would anyone want to buy a company that is run into the ground?

This is the problem:

RM profitable = No need for private investment.

RM bankrupt = No private investment is interested.

This conundrum has given :mfo countless sleepless nights

RM announced record profits last year, the company has since spent x amount of money on modern machinery to bring it upto speed/date with rival companies/competitors across the water. The company has also struck a deal with its union to pay workers "less for more", so in my eyes that makes RM a more attractable prospect to a potential buyer. As i said in an earlier post forget the "year 3" pay deal of 3.5% because by then we will be owned by TNT or another major player. :nervous
