Nokia Maps = Postie's Best Friend

I'm a floater in my office and after 4 years still bottom of senority so get sent miles away regularly to an area I don't know and the managers are as useful as ever. Here's a map, here's the keys and we're not paying overtime. Naturally u wanna get done as quick as possible but if u dont know the area it'll take you time to find the start of ur walk and sometimes streets don't follow on.

I downloaded Nokia Maps onto my E71 thinking it would be a novelty at best and it turned out to be the best friend a postie can have. If you have a nokia smartphone, I suggest you download it. If you want to find an address, shove in the postcode and click search. The GPS will tell u how to walk there or drive there. When u get there it tells u the number of house you're standing outside and even tells u how far away Mcdonalds is. The application is free, just uses mobile web which is dirt cheap now from most suppliers (£7.50 a month on 02 as a bolt on).

Never seen it mentioned on here so thought i'd share it. Now I never get lost wherever I'm sent to!

He he I have a Nokia N97 mini and it comes as standard and your right.

Mine also came with a GPS recorder as well so it can be useful even if you are on a fixed duty and think its too big . You can record that data into an excel prog etc and prove it - or even just show the results to the manager.

You should also try and get Sports Tracker for your Nokia, it can tell you every thing about your walk.
It tells you duration, distance, average pace, maximum pace, number of steps and energy used.
For example here is mine from a quiet tuesday last year, start time 09:41, duration 03:03, distance 8.49 miles, pace avg 21.38 min/mile, max pace 4:23 min/mile, STEPS 16492, 89 per minute, energy 931.1 cal.

And if you have Nokia maps it plots it out on a map to.

Yeah it irritates me tho. The ones who complain and complain and complain, if it's so bad go get another job. They won't tho cuz they know it's still better than most desk jobs

I got a HTC Hero can i get a app for it? Im sick of my manager asking y i have taking so long and y am i booking over time again.... would luv to get something like this so i could print my route with times and so on and give it to him lol would be great to see his face

Sat nav isn't enabled on my PDA, besides that, it very rarely connects until you are five feet from the host cabinet

I used to cover a lot of different rounds for sub offices in my area. I have an iPhone and just used the maps app that comes with it.
If anyone else has an iPhone you can also download an app called RunKeeper which basically does what Nokia SportsTracker does. Gives you all sorts of useful stats about calories burned, average speed etc. and when you're done you'll have a little map of your walk - I used it a couple of times for training on big rurals.
