A warning to the yes voters

Post by Danelectro »

Havnt had much time to get the full details as its my day off but just got a txt from the other office rep.

This follows on from a post i sent last week about a meeting with area sector manager and area rep, where the ASM stated he can predict how many hours an office needs to run on a daily basis.

Today at the team brief our office was told that as from this week part timers for example doing a 30 hour job but their contract is say 25 hours could receive a call in the morning saying we dont need you to prep the job this morning just come in for the delivery part of the duty.

Our office has had a lot of s**t in the last 3 years and some of it is due to the members cutting their own throat but as i have been told our office is estimated to run at 85 BSI and i know from speaking to our area rep that other offices are at 55 BSI,i would suggest that some of the yes voters are in these 55 BSI offices and dont know whats gonna hit them.

As for lovejoy ,dingo etc who are pushing the agreement and now think Royal Mail can be trusted and the CWU have an input in all changes, then could they please explain the above and confirm if the interim agreement is still in place because we were told the above changes will be implemented no matter what office reps say and at the moment its hard to tell which side our area rep is on and he works in my office!

p.s i counted 3 trays yesterday, the amount of letters in each tray was 215,240,221

I'm sorry but whilst I understand they need money it's rather tiresome hearing how hard done to these part-timers are - they signed up for the job, they let RM piss them about and 'use' them. If they are contracted to work 25 hours then they should work 25 hours, not 30. If they don't like the way they are being treated they should find another job. You are not going to change RM policy, if you think you can then all the best to you because you will lose. Welcome to modern Britain, I know someone (and a few others) that left their job a while back, any vacancies now are handed out to agency staff earning significantly less than they were for exactly the same job. Without a huge fight-back from the majority of the working populous of Britain you will not change this business attitude, a small union like the CWU on its own won't stand a chance. And no I don't like seeing people treated like s**t but it seems these days people accept it as par for the course!
and now think Royal Mail can be trusted and the CWU have an input in all changes,
I don't think RM can be trusted, all the years I've worked for them I've never trusted them - they will do anything to take the piss, bend the rules, fiddle the figures, obviously I put up with it and take the piss back when possible.. But.. I also believe CWU can't be trusted, we gave them a strong negotiating position which they frittered away over 4months to give us what they say is a great deal and yet how many union members are unhappy about it? Either they don't listen to the members or they haven't got the strength to negotiate a good deal.

I agree with what your saying but these part time contracts are kept low so this kind of flexibility can now be done, some of these part timers have been on their duties for years and the contract should have been changed to match the hours of the duty.

Also the full timers like myself have now got to do the prep assist on these partly lapsed duties aswell as complete our own duties all this because an area manager says he can tell what hours an office needs daily. So my main point was the interim agreement must not now be in place otherwise this wouldnt be going ahead and this at the same time that the CWU are trying to sell the dodgy agreement.

It is pure fantasy that this area manager can predict traffic flow the way he thinks.
I for one will be cutting off or booking overtime but i know thats gonna lead to the usual performance issues being raised by the manager.

Well i would imagine like any other measurement scale Royal Mail uses it depends on who is doing the measuring and to what purpose. :hmmmm

Yes it is rather tiresome isn't it (but you should try living on a part time wage, and it isn't easy to just find another job). However, instead of telling them they should leave, perhaps the union should protect all the members, not just the full timers.
Sorry, I forgot, this is the CWU
