FT Sick Cover/Seniority

Post by El Diablo »

Haven`t been on the forums for a while, had to move house (twice) in the past few months.

Anyways, I was just wondering, if a FT floater was off on sick leave for quite a while, what's the score with arranging cover on overtime? I'm senior part timer and our `manager` is dishing out OT every day to a part timer who has only been in a year or so. He also gives a lot of prep-time and IPS overtime to another guy, ignoring a good few more senior guys.

My question is, shouldn't that overtime be offered to more senior PT staff first? Is seniority even still applicable? The manager tells me that he would prefer whoever is delivering the duty that day to prep it. Thing is, I deliver my duty every day and never prep it (i'm on 25 hour contract).

I don`t mean to bitch, and I like the PT guy, but he still lives with his parents and I have rent/council tax/etc to pay and a missus who's a full time student, I really need the cash. My union rep is gonna bring it up at his next meeting, but he's kinda new to it and I don't wanna send him on a paperchase to dig up the facts.

I'm sorry if I only ever come on here to ask questions, but any help you people could offer would be well appreciated, I don't know what I'm going to do.

:confused

Seniority should NEVER be used to allocate overtime.
However neither should your manager be dishing it all out to the same guys.
Overtime must be equally shared between all who request it if it is appropriate to their skills and/or training.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

yep, overtime should be shared [can't say equally as there may not be an equal amount of hours] but shared fairly...if not you would be being treated less favourably than the others and it's costing you money!!
