Rubber Bands & The Environment

Had an idea the other day. The elastic bands constantly make us come under fire for being non-environmentally friendly plus weeks after a shift you're still finding more coming out of your shoes, bags and coats. Why don't Royal Mail start giving us Velcro bands. They're reusable, don't snap u in the face when they break, and are much better on the environment. Who could I suggest this to at RM that would listen?

They wont go for that mate, too much of a good idea. According to the courier RM employ an elastic band man who's probably on 100 k a year to go around the world and find the perfect elastic bands, think we are using a supplier from an eastern block country now. Anyways this tool explained that aslong as we keep the bands out of cold environment,ie from taking them outside lol, then these bands should have a expected life span of about 12 months seriously

your idea shows imagination, but would be a non starter imo..because an elastic band is cheaper, any idea that would cost more cash would be kicked out the door, rm is about saving money these days mate..the purse strings are "stretched" to the limit.

give it a go you never know. btw we were cleaning out an old sorting frame the other day it was a larger one about 50 years old maybe. we opened a drawer on it and found some of those old elastic bands, i turned to the boss and said "i wonder" and guess what? they r now in my frame and have been used everyday so far lol.

Some years ago we had a fairly new starter who was keen on progressing up the ladder and went on some trainee managers course. When he came back one of the ideas he talked about was the use of velcro bands. It never happened and that was years ago. He also got so pissed off by the way the management treated him he left the business. Nothing changes.

Yeah send it and i will look for it before i put it in the kitty litter tray

Mind you dont mention RMC as its blocked on the pc's at the office so they will never print it
