Help - Off Sick + Holiday period !!

Post by halfachance »

Need some advice here as I am not sure what rights we have regarding sick leave and holiday arrangements.
I am on sick leave and have my annual leave coming up soon.
Do I need to sign off the sick and take my leave and then sign back on sick again afterwards ?
Can anyone throw some light on this ? I know it would cause problems with stage warnings potentially and my Doctor reckons the holiday ( booked some time ago ) would be beneficial. However I dont know what to do. Read a couple of different things online but didn't anwer my questions.
Thanks for any comments.

If you are off sick and it goes over a weeks leave , then the leave will be carried over till you return to work. You cant be sick and on leave , one or the other. I have nearly three weeks owning I think

Sorry might has misled you.
What I mean is that if I am off work sick and have a holiday booked which will fall during the sick leave period can I still take the holiday ( doctor reckons will be beneficial ) or should I consider cancelling the holiday ( big financial loss ) or do I need to come off sick leave in order to take the holiday ?
Dunno if that makes things clearer. Just I am off sick at present and have a holiday booked for a few weeks time. If I am still sick on the departure date ... ?
Thanks for info.

a few years ago i was off work after an operation for 6 weeks and i had a holiday booked during this period.
my surgeon thought that the break and the sunshine would do me good so i went away as planned and claimed the leave time back when i returned to work.
was a few years ago but don't think things have changed that much since then.

best of luck :Sick

Being off sick on a doctor's certificate means you are unfit to work - it doesn't
mean you are unable to travel, unless your doctor tells you that.
If your doctor says a holiday would do you good then go.
The certificate covers you for being unable to work, and any AL due in that period
should be deferred.

Go to doctors and get doctor to put in his notes on computer that he has advised you that going on holiday will be benificial to your recovery.

Go to your DOM and inform him/her of doctors advice, and if they say they need a letter from doctor give the doctors phone no so they can request a letter themselves at RM expense.

Go on holiday have a good
time free from stress and worry and hopefully be closer to a managable return to work, everybody happy simple

One thing though - if you're going abroad you should get a E111 form from your Post Office Counter
which entitles you to free medical treatment in EU countries shuld you need it.
If you are going to a non-EU country and you think you might need medical treatment you will need to
take out travel insurance. You would have to inform the Insurer of any pre-existing medical condition,
and they may not cover you for some, or might want a higher premium. If you do not inform them of
any existing medical condition it would invalidate your insurance, and they would refuse to reimburse
you for any claim.

Firstly, if you have a holiday booked and you are off sick, I would go without a thought or mention, especially if Doc say it will be good for you .
I have been off sick for six months and went on a holiday I had booked during that time .

Secondly , As for the E11 , that was replaced a few years ago with EHIC card , it is now a credit sized plastic card.
