Does anyone else think that Hayes will do an Alan Johnson and abandon ship to become a Minister of Parliament, and if so how long after the agreement is signed.

Time is running out for him to do that.

I would estimate 4 weeks untill nomination papers have to be filled for candidates in the GE

Billy would make a bloody good MP. Heard best bet is that he will replace retiring Peter Kilfoyle in Liverpool Walton?

He will run for a seat in liverpool ( Walton ) but he will be running against Ricky Tomlinson so unlucky Billy you wont win against him.

Last I heard was Ricky (A true Union man who spent 2 years in prison for Union activities in the 70s) was going to stand in Wavertree, has that changed

As far as im aware there is only one seat avalible in liverpool .

Im not from liverpool so its either Walton/Wavetree up for grabs and yes Ricky Tomlinson is a staunch union man hes stood on many a picket line especially during the Dockers dispute.

Candidates (usually the sitting MP) would have been selected mid-term - 2 years ago.
But Kilfoyle announced he wasn't going to stand recently (last month), so there is no
candidate in place. It would take too long to select a new candidate, allowing Labour HQ
to 'parachute' in their preferred candidate.
It's how Alan Johnson got his seat too.

So might Ricky Tomlinson be the official Labour candidate ? :Very Happy

I wouldn't think he is standing as a Labour candidate - he doesn't think much of New Labour.

:chuckle :chuckle :chuckle :chuckle :chuckle

He is a personal friend of Arthur Scargil and I think he will be running under Socialist Labour Party banner/manifesto.

Edit and don't forget his memorable quote:

Power to scargill Ricky will be running for the socailist labour party in liverpool.

Scargill was great in my eyes fair enough he made a big mistake he should have taken the offer that was on the table at the time but he and the miners took on the goverment single handed whilst the majority of this country stood by and watched on there Tvs at the barbaric way the police under orders from Thatcher treated those men.

Long live scargill pity there werent more people like him who are prepared to stand and fight and will not buckle at the first hurdle.

I vote for arthur to be the next leader of the CWU lol
