2 Questions need answering here. Dingo, lovejoy,or truth.

Post by creedscat »

Questions ive asked the Rep and also 3 different doms, but no ones willing to answer them, i wonder if any of you could maybe.........

1. What happens when these WSM break down as they will being used 6 days/nights of the week???, and i take it these machines are more than likely foreign therefore parts would have to be ordered from abroad which is obviously time consuming etc.

2. What happens when these vans break down,ie puncture, starter motor,no brakes etc???

I take it RM and the CWU have something in place for both when these situations arise which they will all over the country very frequently no doubt.

The reason im asking is because its states in the agreement that there will be NO USE of private cars, so if a dom asks me to use mine it aint fooking happening, and also when these machines break down this mail still needs to be sorted therefore there wont be enough hours in our working day to get it sorted and deliver it,oh and do the D2D's and we cant be delaying mail on a regular basis now can we???

3. What happens if the sick is high and there are no volunteer drivers?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

See mate these questions are just a few that need to be answered as it will happen very frequently and the only thing i can think of is RM expecting its colleagues to show goodwill etc and help them out either by using thier own cars or working extra hours in the day to help them out with the extra sorting etc and delivery when the WSM breaks down. To be fair i dont think there will be many takers in offering RM goodwill again after that joke of an agreement eh?

You scratch my back ill scratch yours springs to mind.

I would expect that for WSM they would have some TPM type persons trained up for the odd breakdown :pray

Well you would think they would have something in place but its more about getting parts and time of fixing the problem etc. Same goes for vans etc.

As regards the walk sequencing machines:
I imagine that there are on site engineers who repair most faults.
With the number of machines at each mail centre, if one machine is not working then the work can be switched to another machine.

In our DO over roughly a 6 month period we've had only a couple of hiccups with the second (last) delivery of WS mail. On the first occasion it arrived nearly an hour late. This was in the very early days and I'm guessing that they didn't really have a contingency plan then. On the second occasion (contingency plan then in place, possibly?) the mail centre pushed it through as standard mech but we got it earlier than we would have done the WS so no harm done.

Not sure bout spares mate, thought they may train a few people to change bulbs, jump starts etc, expect anything needing replacing would
need an engineer, so not sure how long it would be before he got to you. Think i can hear FLEXIBILITY being used a lot more :funneh

Not sure about now but in the new agreement we will be allowed to do certain tasks. Page 54
Minor repairs
Drivers will be required to undertake vehicle checks in accordance with Royal Mail standards and, where practical, assist in identifying solutions to resolve issues arising to ensure that the mail is moved safely and legally.
Drivers will also be required to carry out minor vehicle repairs/maintenance tasks where necessary which are jointly agreed as suitable for a trained driver to carry out (e.g. replace bulbs, top up fluids/oil/water, replace wiper blades, change wheels). This should be carried out wherever possible within duty time, including time allocated to complete vehicle checks. However, it is recognised that some minor repairs will require additional time.
Driver training and the practical application of minor repairs will be introduced for the entire Royal Mail vehicle fleet in line with the principles contained in our agreed process: The Performance of minor repairs by network professional LGV drivers.

In DOs the resident Engineers of the parent MC will be responsible for repairing and resolving any technical issues beyond the training/skill levels of the WSM Operator.

Technical Operator
Locating CSS machines outside Mail Centres challenges our ability to achieve the performance and reliability necessary to successfully deliver this transformational programme. Some technical intervention affecting this may require only a very basic level of technical competency.
Royal Mail and the CWU will agree a full list of tasks that may be safely undertaken on a “first look” response basis, using agreed tools, with an agreed level of remuneration. This will be trialled in sample MPUs and jointly evaluated. Once it has been agreed that the success criteria have been met, the outcome of the trial will inform national consultation on the basis of rollout to all MPUs.

Maintenance of Equipment Outside the Mail Centre
In line with Phase 3 of the 2007 Pay & Modernisation Agreement, engineers will be required to maintain equipment located outside their parent Mail Centre within a locally agreed geographical range.
The engineering workload including travel to the remote location will be calculated as identified in this agreement and included in the normal shift attendance. A Royal Mail vehicle will be provided for this purpose and the business policy for driving the vehicle will be applied.

Is'nt that illegal?? bear in mind we are not trained to do such tasks,(we are not mechanics) we are delivery men/women and could have a serious accident with tha jack falling on us etc then wont RM be liable?? In fact i changed a bulb on my motor today and it took me nearly an hour to do because it was fooking awkward to get to. So we would be failing to finish our duty because we have to take care of repairs to our vans lol, im sure joe public would be understanding with that excuse when they dont get thier giro or important letter that day because of it though eh :Very Happy

Went to get my van today, it was surrounded by about 10 managers having training on how to check a vehicle  That was one less job I had to do today :cuppa
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

No not illegal - In the quote it says "Trained" so that covers them. If you are not trained then you can't do it, if you are you can. TBH I am surprised this has to be in an agreement when I was trained to drive in the forces it was standard and accepted practice. Mind you they also trained you how to drive cross country and on skid pans. Also the skills they are asking are the same as most people would do on their own car I would have thought.
