Job security.
Another post of mine to gauge feelings.
Do you think, even though it's a shortish term pay cut that this deal gives us job security.
This is what you will be told in your briefings,do you think this is right, try to be honest.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Job security.
honestly? no
it may look like it will but you have to take into account
1. the huge job losses in mail centers no job security there
2. the unresolved pension issue - no point having a job for life if we lose our pension we have worked for
3. The impact the increased workload will have on us physically, with longer spans, more to deliver and top 10% targets and unknown performance targets to meet, this job will become a young man's job only - no point having job security if you are physically unable to cope with the workload
4. with what we are being asked to accept with this pay deal you also have to ask what would we be asked to give up/accept next time
that's just my read on it

Re: Job security.
The answer is no, with privatasation looming i doubt it will be much job security. Everyone should realise that if a new company takes over RM they will probably enforce their own rules and rip old agreements. I don't expect this to happen straight away if the Tories get in power but i do expect it within the next few years.

I don't,
With the way Royal Mail is being run, i:e, to make big bonuses for top tier management, the only way they'll be able to do this is by more and more job cuts to us on the frontline.
If Royal Mail was run so that there was more emphasis on being a Public service, then yes.

Re: Job security.
job security yes, that is the only part that our rep keeps banging on about, but at what cost? There are too many vague issues in this wishy washy agreement, too much scope for managerial massaging, everybody knows that this job is going to change drastically,& i don't relish doing a longer delivery with increased loads for the sake of a few £'s.we all know that RM wants (wanted) shot of F/T ,working us into an early grave looks like an option that the CWU have agreed to as well..........its not for me i'm afarid

Re: Job security.
Ironically the only thing from the agreement that will give us job security is the massive job cuts that will come with it.
If you mean will this deal place Royal Mail on a sound financial footing then no it will not.
Besides the massive pension deficit, the huge commercial loan from the goverment,DSA costing us millions a year and the fact that all of these changes planned are in the main untested.I do believe that this agreement will result in massive industrial unrest within the company.
Unfortunately if this agreement is pushed through despite it's unpopularity the CWU will not be in much of a position to do anything about it.
Royal Mail are not to be trusted POSTMAN and coming from London you should know that.
I have never felt less secure than i feel right now.

Re: Job security.
imo surely when sequencing machines come in D2D prep will be the substitute work for IPS & SPS hence protecting indoor work and FT jobs?....
ps i agree that only those that deliver D2D should get the suplementary payment.... and cover jobs should take 1/6 of D2D each day to share any additional workloads due to increased D2D....

Re: Job security.
but what about the interim? what time do we use to prep the extra d2d before the wsm comes in ( ours is not due until 2011 at the earliest) by then we could be up to any number of d2d

Re: Job security.
any D2D work under the agreement has to be factored into normal workload.... they cant increase D2D too dramatically too soon ie before wsm or we'll all be going over our time and cutting off... or they'll be paying vast ammounts of overtime.... i think they want to ensure that we have sufficient work to 'fill' the hours we're contracted to do but nothing more than that....

Re: Job security.
Don't you believe a word of it Postman they'll sell you the pay cut with that empty promise but we are now entering compulsory redundancy territory ,MC's decimated and DO's not immune. Longer spans mean less duties. Can't understand why our HQ insiders haven't told the dreamers who think their walks will be getting shorter cos of increased workload that it is a fantasy. RM reckon your increased workload will fill the time saved by sequenced mail. I save 10 mins ,bet you RM say I should save 60 mins
Bye
