Postman with Driving

Hello my first post here! I'm starting part-time 25hours a week at my local delivery office as a Postman with driving, just wondering if anyone could enlighten me as to what this might entail. Obviously the postman part i get but living in quite a small town i'm abit unsure where the driving comes in.. Anyway can't wait to start!

You will see the words park&loop quite often on this site.
That's where the driving comes in.

I assume the driving just means you're expected to do driving duties as and when required, along with anything else they ask you to do in the name of "flexibility"

Same contract terms as when I started 3 years ago. The driving bit is just flexibility, they want as many people to cover as many bases as possible.

Overtime might be there if you want it. If not, get in touch with the union rep at your office, join up, and only work your hours.

I started under a decent DOM, hopefully you'll be as lucky as me and you'll enjoy the job. Despite what you read on here it can actually be quite enjoyable from time to time

Whatever you do, ashy, do NOT go out in a van unless they have given you a driving assessment first ( up to an hour's drive near your office with an AA driving instructor in a van ) - if you don't have an assessment, and have an accident, you are not covered by insurance & your managers will wash their hands of you ( you will learn that is quite normal for a lot of things in RM ). Also, if you are assessed in a small van ( such as a Combo, Transit Connect, Bipper, etc ) you are NOT insured to drive a bigger van like a Transit SWB, Maxus, Sherpa, etc ( but if assessed on a big van only, you can still drive a small one ). Get to know your rep, always ask him and other experienced posties for advice, and pay attention to them - you'll soon find your feet.....and finally, from time to time mangers will tell you lies, so that you will do what they want ( common ones are "You have to complete your delivery, even if you have to work past your time." and "Well, Joe Bloggs over there can finish delivery without claiming overtime, so I can't see how you can too!" ). Luckily, it is very easy for posties to know when a manager is fibbing....turn to face them, pay attention, look closely, and you will see their lips move - that's the giveaway everytime

Loved my first day, got shown my frame and went out after bundling, strangely enough i would be delivering to my own estate so i knew the area well which is pretty good! Really hot though today so been a bit of a test on my fitness but wasn't that bad! All in all can see me enjoying things alot!

Today is the lightest day of the week pal, so not much in regards of mail,packets, etc. Did they give you a full walk to do??

Yeah was mentioned it was a quiet day to start off, i was paired with someone else and basically shown my walk then we split up, its going to be a lot harder on my own obviously but having seen it all today its alright. My walk basically covers the estate i live on, the main road nearhere and a large council estate just round the corner but i grew up around here so its ideal for me, my one worry was not knowing where which addresses were and posting to the wrong houses lol.

I will mention one thing,this is not your walk.
If you are lucky and have a decent workplace coach you may be on it for 6 weeks until you are up to speed.
After that you will be a reserve and your walk may change on a daily basis.
