Ability to do a driving duty

I have been told that all new employees set on in the last 2 years needed to have a driving licence.

Driving duties and walks are very different and I wonder how many people that are asked to drive will actually be able to carry out the duty.

I have seen several postmen take a driving duty only to return back to walking because they didn't like the pressures involved.

And not only is no driving premium paid, drivers have for the last ten years been short changed by being paid less Door To Door money than their cycling colleagues - but maybe this new agreement will put that right at last.

Prob cause drivers dont do that many...ever thought about that?

I wasn't looking to turn this into a D2D issue as I have 880 calls for D2D on my duty plus my firms and stand to lose around £30 per week.
I was making the point that CDV will entail everything that I do now as a driving duty and requires a whole different way of organizing as opposed to just a walk.

Thats my point, just because you have a driving licence doesn't mean you can do a CDV duty.

I think you will find it depends on what is contained in the job description for the job you originally applied for, if you were expected to drive then almost certainly you would have been asked to provide an up to date driving licence at interview. If the job advertised was for driving or even occasional driving then my view is you would be expected to perform it. However not not all delivery jobs have specified this as a requirement for getting the job, if you are one of these you could be asked later if you want to perform driving duties, if you agree this would then permanently update your job description voluntarily so think very carefully before agreeing to do so.
