Grievenace Procedure

Post by door_to_bin »

Just wondering what the address is to send my stage 1 grievance form off to? My grievance is against the management in my office and although the form instructs me to hand it to my manager, I dont think that would be the best course of action.

i've always known the proceedure is to hand it to manager, just make sure you tell your manager you have photocopied it so you dont want him to throw it away or you will send it higher up, tell him you want him to read it and act on it

If your grievence is against your manager you should bypass him/her and take it to their manager. Please do it right and get a Union Rep in to help. If you don't have one in your office get in touch with your local union office and they will have an Area Rep who can come in and help. If your are a Union Rep it might be a good idea to go on a course as you should know what to do.

yep...make sure it's dated and you keep copies of all correspondence relating to your grievance.
if it's about bullying/harassment -phone the bullying and harassment helpline to get a form asap.

good luck.

Once again your Rep / Area Rep is the person to take with you I can't stress that enough. One last thing though, managers stick together, make of that what you will but I wish you the best of luck.

If your not wanting to hand it to your manager i think you can send it directly to pond street in sheffield where they deal with this kind of thing or they used too. They will probley tell you to give it to yr gaffa but just explain to them you dont have confidence in them to deal with it properly.Im having this problem at the minute my Shift manager takes me in the office and trys to scare me off doing anything because im apparently misinterpriting the manager im having the problem with. Im the one whos getting it wrong not the line manager. My shift managers even trying to tell me what was said in a meeting that he wasnt even present in.I would really appreciate somebody whos high up in the union oppinion on this situation to be honest if anybody reads this leave me a post and i will get in touch. Its amazing how much they rally round one another when one of thems in the s**t but if we do that amongst our selfs we are told we are being disshonest and thats a sackable offence. Is it a sackable offence when a manager is disshonest?? Somehow i think it wont be and theres already been alot of disshonesty up to this point so im dam sure there will be more so they can just turn it round on me.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE. I HAVE SAID IT 3 TIMES NOW, MAKE SURE THE UNION IS INVOLVED. IF YOU ARE A REP YOU SHOULD KNOW WHAT YOU SHOULD DO IF NOT YOUR REP OR AREA REP WILL. GET THEM IN ON IT. IF THE PROBLEM IS WITH YOUR MANAGER THEN YOU TAKE IT TO HIS/HER MANAGER AS I HAVE ALREADY SAID BUT DON'T GO IT ALONE. THE MORE PEOPLE WHO ARE AFFECTED THE BETTER YOUR CASE. IN FACT THAT IS ANOTHER POINT, IF THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE YOU DON'T DO ONE CASE FOR ALL OF THEM YOU DO INDIVDUAL CASES, ONE EACH THUS STRENGTHENING WHAT YOU ARE DOING. BUT PLEASE DO WHAT I'VE SAID AND INVOLVE YOUR UNION. I'M NOT GOING TO SAY HOW I KNOW WHAT TO DO, YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE MY WORD FOR IT BUT I DO KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT, BELIEVE ME

My rep is involved and i always take a rep with me whenever im taken off the floor so i know i have that in my favour this time as i always do the point im was making is that they dont seem to care that my rep was there and they will still try and shaft people in a your word against his/hers situation so why the angry CAPS.

Good to hear you take your Rep with you. Like I said on a previous post, they all stick together and will shaft you if they get the chance. My original answer was regarding the Grievence Proccedure, there is a set proceedure that should be followed. I can only assume that it has been rectified otherwise it would have gone to a Stage 2 on the proceedure. Sorry if we are at cross purposes, not sure what your actual problems are and with answering someone else's post where they were not sure regarding the correct proceedure for a Grievence Case. Also sorry if CAPS upset you but had been trying to do two things on my computer at the same time and left caps on.

Think I'll be in the same boat soon! Got a Stage 1 meeting planned, and I don't belive for one minute that the "we'll look at mitigating circumstances/take all the factors into account" type statement will not count 1 iota!

So, my Action Plan will be;

1. Attend the meeting with CWU Rep
2. Get the DOMS expert opinion, ON MY "MITIGATING EVIDENCE" I WILL SUPPLY THEM, which will be totally overlooked/ignored.
3. Ask for a Grieveance form on leaving.
4. Complete the form, along with Medical "mitigating" evidence from 8 Professionals and post it to Pool Stree, Sheffield.

Door_to_bin,

Post the details of your grievance here, leaving names out of course. I will be able to help you draft it and advise you on how to proceed.

I am not a union rep but I have had a lot of success using the grievance procedure. I have won cases for my workmates where senior union officials have failed. It would be a pleasure to help you give your managers a 'cucumber' if they deserve it.

I like the grievance procedure because it is the shortest route to outside justice, e.g. an Employment Tribunal.

Basic principles to follow when using the Grievance Procedure:

1. Only make one point per grievance. Aim to use the least amount of words required to get your point across. Make sure that there are no ambiguities. Management love to dispute the interpretation.

2. Stick to the time limits. This is a race to tribunal. If you allow them extra time, they will use it to brief lawyers, attack you from a different direction, change staff etc.

3. Avoid face to face meetings at all costs. The purpose of these meetings is to get you to speak and the more you say, the more material they have got to dispute the interpretation of. I have also been made verbal promises in meetings that have subsequently been withdrawn. It is an intimidating experience confronting a manager who has power over you and the meetings have been included in this procedure as a deterrent. Face to face meetings are not compulsory and you can politely decline to attend if you feel your grievance is straight forward. Always give them the option to write to you if they require clarification of any points in your grievance.

I am interested to know what your managers are doing to you. If you think that your anonymity will be compromised, PM me.

If anyone else wants any help raising genuine grievances, I will be delighted to help.
