Ok, so our negotiators were locked for 6 months in a room with RM, trying to knock out the best deal for us. We went on strike to show we were serious, and to force RM to up our lot..

And six months later, they come out of the room with THIS agreement. Makes me wonder what RM initially wanted from us, that makes THIS agreement look worth the trouble...

What a shame.

The National Briefing told attendees that RM came to the talks with only two main proposals - one being D2D, the other being late Saturdays.

If that was the starting point then some credit should go to CWU negotiators for arriving at a comprehensive Agreement. Whether you like the Agreement is of course another matter!

It's not a game of bluff!

So the strikes were stopped for what Royal Mail thought was a good opening offer? two?
Yeh good way to keep the talks going on for months, put a rubbish deal on the table from the start!

......so joe public and the media forget about the strike, Royal Mail had a strike Free Christmas and it's all kept "Secret" from the CWU members and yet the CWU negotiators are being applauded for such a comprehensive agreement. The two offers should have been told to the members at the start to show what attitude Royal Mail had from the beginning!
Royal Mail strikes are called off
The postal strikes have been called off until at least the New Year to allow for fresh talks between Royal Mail and the Communication Workers Union.

TUC general secretary Brendan Barber said the decision had been made to provide "a period of calm" in which the two sides could reach a long-term deal.

He said that meant Royal Mail deliveries would be "free of any disruption" over Christmas.

Don't get me started on the fact that negotiations were halted over Christmas.....anyone remember how long they were stopped for?

Why are we giveing credit to the CWU negotiators. Looks to me like RM got what they wanted on both these issues and more, like no limit to delivery spans.

Looks that way to me, too.
The RM came into negotians determined to wreck our Saturdays altogether, and for little reason other, than because it's what the MON-FRI bosses want, also, they wanted to increase the already intolerable level of shyte, or D2D as they're known by a few, and after four months of hard negotiating from the CWU, RM got what they most wanted.
Only in Britain, eh? :d'oh!

I don't suppose they happened to mention what the CWU's starting point was?

OED definition of "compromise" = concede some of your wishes to the benefit of the opposing side, to guarentee the granting of your other wishes.
CWU definition of "compromise" = concede most of your wishes to the benefit of the opposing side, to guarentee the granting of almost none of your wishes
