i have 1 on my floating duty, steep hill all the way round high steps to get to front doors, not many ways to cut corners, it takes me over 4 hrs and it turns my legs into jelly

Mines a bastard ...loads of stairs so u are constantly up and down...730 delivery points..(50, blocks of flats)..takes me anything between 4 and 5 hours to deliver depending how busy it is...measured my steps with my pedometer each day...yesterday 20,500 steps and burned 800 calories, going to start showing the gaffers it everytime they question me about booking o/t....i tell them everyday its cos the walks way to long but its like talking to a brick wall.......If the walks get even bigger i can see serious problems with peoples health....and royal mail says its number 1 concern is our health and safety !!! cobblers!!.......

im similar except i have 90! blocks of flats yes 90....... 92 to be exzxact!!!!!!!!

what do u put in ur "reason" for it ? on the sheet i say - LATE + HEAVY.

el_cartero, you sound like you've got a similar walk to me - nearly 100 flats, all three up.

Oh and to add to my adventures, only one drop box for the walk.

As you maybe appreciate, best to try and keep the weight down since the bag is obviously carried up and down all of the stairs - not easy if you've got to try and fit 5+ drop bags into one box (packets, D2Ds etc at the minute can make this like a game of tetris for the driver).

And yes, I'm a part timer....

oh and edited to add that since starting this job I've lost over 2 stone in weight - my battle over christmas is to eat as much as humanly possible to try and maintain the little amount I have left.

manager knows the walks 2 big but nowt will ever get done...i just take my time and book like f**k...or if i feel like not working over i cut ..simple as..On the overtime sheet i just put ..excess mail/ delivery...

here's my 2p worth......502 delivery points. i am on a rural. i have a new development which is going to be approx 460 houses. At the minute 40 are occupied.......and according to my bosses i am to "absorb" these!!!!!!!!!!!

780 drops, 29 blocks of flats and 1 flat street. Am so shattered when i get home cannot use my legs and so feel royal fail takes up more of my life than 40 hours. Really heavy d2d next week. Monthly council magazines. Make about £50 quid on them with other d2d at present. Told lino that if this comes in wont be prepping them when i get back any more. Even more depressed now as he says theyll be no more duty time to prep them as after revision theres going to be more on ips so will get back toframe earlier. Lol after every revision they say this and were still doing ips till gone 8am. Told him he will no longer be able to say you cant book on them though as youre paid seperately for them. It was unreasonable workloads ,bullying,absorbtion and unrealistic targets that made delivery staff vote for a strike and yet its the delivery staff who have been let down. Am thinking of taking a payment holiday from the union. I dont want to be paying them anything for a while. Theyve had 15 years of my money.

I have 650 calls on mine it's mostly houses with front gardens but there's a fair bit of flats on it that are all 3 storey blocks. My travel time on the bike is at least 30 minutes more if it's windy. The main problem with this walk is it's very heavy, if it didn't get tons of crap and packets every day it would be an amazing walk because it's a nice area and mostly flat. Five lumpy bags on a Tuesday isn't uncommon and towards the end of the week it's normally eight or nine.

If your manager knows you have a walk that is too long you should start cutting off, a few weeks your manager will get into action too reduce your walk. Our office has been getting our revision and its come to light the walks are too long. A surprise.

Well my walk is not popular when i am off. Large detached houses with many long drives a lot of which are gravel Also 1/2 are on a steep hill. A small parade of shops and a cpouple of small blocks of flats.

Averages between 21000 to 22000 steps on my pedometer Takes just over 4hrs on a good day and 5 hrs with poxy absorbtion. Its not the worst in the office but it kills my legs

The round i covered last week was an utter tw&t and this week's walk is another monster in terms of quantity but a lot of it is terraced so i can get round it realtively quick.

Who here DOESN'T hobble like an old bloke 1st thing in the morning?

Just back from covering rural duty. Out @8:30 home @ 2:15 + dinner. And thats with only a couple of specials too. Did I mention we've got to absorb all the specials in the office on the 3 rurals?

I don't hobble like an old bloke first thing in the morning, I hobble like an old woman! I swear the amount of clicking that happens can't be healthy. On course for a few joint replacements I suspect.
