Number of drops

Having read through a lot of posts, i have seen walks that have 800 plus drops , kin el , i have 545 on my walk , and i am trying to get mine cut as i cant complete in 3.5 hours. So who has the biggest ball breaking walk??? how many drops?, how long does it take ? and how the feck do you complete everyday ??????

Well mines not the most calls for sure but is a long slog with detached houses. Today (sat) took 4.30 hrs to complete.

Our biggest round has 720 calls but a large percent are flats.

The fundamental issue is fair / equalized walks, del spans on average equal - regardless of calls.

Performance measures used on indoor & outdoor are the same measures used - throughout the UK = PERIOD

That way it is a level playing field which is no doubt what most people want

It doesn't matter a toss if all walks are an average equal, if all walks are too physically demanding - and it seems of late RM have taken the view that all deliveries have to be maximised to their lowest cost potential, when they SHOULD & MUST be maximised to a lowest common denominator of physical ability ( ie, could a 55+y.o. OPG deliver this walk, 6 days a week ( based on this is the only OT available to most OPGs ) for a continuous period of 3 months ( based on one week's leave every qurter ) - and take into account that it could apply to a PT where their indoor workload is minimised & the outdoor is maximised. )

Funny how this crops up time and time again with people thinking that the more calls you have the harder the walk is which is absolute nonsense. You can have a walk with 250 calls which is a damn sight harder than one with 750 calls.

You have to take into account the type of houses, the distance between them and the amount of work you get on each type of walk. If it was as simple as doing it on the call rate then working them out would be a doddle.

Why is it that people really can't get their heads round this ?

We can get our heads round this and know full well that a rural duty with 250 houses geting in and out of a van 200 times a day is worse than a town duty of 750 small terraced houses on the level - but that doesn't stop us asking who has the biggest walk.

Ashaad, this is the perfect response to your post - someone with a number of 15+ story tower blocks on their walk with low rise terracing, etc would in theory, fly through their walk - where as someone with their walk somewhere like the Hovis ad from the 70's ( the kid on the bike going up the steep hill ), will not be able to do the same amount....all these variables are taken into account when walk lengths are designed.....but the most important one ( the LCD of physical ability ) is always forgotten, why is that? Does everyone expect a 60-something to be as quick as a 20-something?

We have one walk with 820 drops which takes 4hrs - 4hrs 30 mins, we also have one walk which has 395 drops but is a 10mile walk and believe me you are knackered at the end of the duty takes 4hrs most days. My own van duty but not a rural has 573 drops and takes 4hrs plus depending on parcels and registers. There are no easy walks in our office, i have done most of them and they are all slogs.
