It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

My rep still has to get past the first page. Give him some credit though, I did tell him the gory details and he's voting no.

I think that's good?...

people should read the whole document to be informed and so they are aware of the facts and if they need questions answered but how many will? instead rely on what the union spin it out to be?

knowledge is power

we are the union

The document has been out for 3 days now and reps still don't know whats in this so called deal.

CWU and the ROYAL MAIL should merge, as they can't get anything right.

Thats not fair, some reps will have taken a lot of time to go through it. Remember we give this time for nothing and to read a 90 page and take it in, while having a life to live could take more than 2 days.

Wait a minute, i am not talking about every rep having to adhere to reading the whole 80 pages!

Just know the basics i.e d2d, working hours, bonuses, and so forth. Deal with the nitty gritty later.

It only took me a couple of minutes reading about the new deal in the paper.

Well I'm not a rep, but still made the effort to download the 'pre-release' document & the official one, read through them several times, analyse the relevent points and present them to my colleagues at work. This 'deal' is IMPORTANT! Reps should make it a PRIORITY to inform their members and campaign for a resounding NO to this suicidal stitch-up. We know, and appreciate, that you give freely of your time. However, you've known that this was coming for some time, and if you can't get motivated to do something NOW, then move over and let someone who can take over!

It would be true to say that it is a lengthy document, but not all areas are relevant to everyone and so it isn't necessary to read it all.

In fairness to some people the agreement is not that dire, but for deliveries it is a disaster and more especially so for part timers who now form a considerable percentage of the workforce, not all of whom will get a vote because they see no point in being a member of a parasitic organisation who leech off its members.

Any fair minded person who read the document could not but be amazed at the blatant discrimination towards part time employees and delivery officers in particular SO I FIND IT PARTICULARLY GALLING TO FIND THAT OUR DIV AND AREA AND BRANCH ARE RECOMMENDING A YES VOTE IN NORTH LANCS AND CUMBRIA - I haven't yet discovered why but I most certainly expect them to be able to justify the reasoning behind that decision - and I hope to Christ they do not mention solidarity with HQ. TBH I think it has far more to do with their position than the welfare of the members they purport to represent and to whom they come to at election time.

I firmly believe that if this agreement is ratified then there will be a very large proportion of the membership will withdraw from the union because they will feel that they are no longer truly represented.

How can a branch advocate any kind of vote without having first asked its members what they want?

That is a very good question and well worth the asking - if only they had they b*lls to face the membership. They held a meeting today and informed the unit Reps that was the recommendation. The reps of course are having none of it but it makes a vote difficult - not for the union wannabes of course they'll be arse licking til doomsday.

Who does a branch answer to?...... HQ or the membership.
Answers on a poscard because my area rep was trying to sell this deal on monday BEFORE it was even officially released.

This is the whole problem with our union, everything works from the top - down, instead of from the grass roots - up.

They can recommend whatever they like. I have read the document and have a mind of my own. I'll vote based on what I've read, and if that vote happens to coincide with the rep's recommendation, that's all well and good.

What are you suggesting, mcboing ? That the branch conducts a mini-ballot to ascertain what the members believe their opinion should be ? And based on that ballot, the reps can tell them what their vote should be ??

People shouldn't need their rep to tell them which way to vote ! He / she is there to represent our views, not tell us what view we should have FFS !
