22.5 Hours

Post by PT getting shafted »

Ello :)

I'm 22.5 hours (start at 9:45 and finish at 14:15 (yh haha))

I come in every morning, and my frame is generally always put in, and usually the packets are turned, all i need to do is redirections, weigh bags and tie up, killers etc. Usually this takes me about 30 mins, and im out the door for quarter past, which is what time im supposed to be out. But i always have to stay behind in office after im finished to do my D2D, and obviously, i shouldn't be doing that.

I was told it was because i should be doing the D2D in that half hour period in the morning. I was told, technically on a 22.5 hour contract, all the baggin and tying up should be done for me. Just want to know if this is true or not, what exactly i should and shouldn't be doing.

Thanks

Well with a 20 min break and travelling to and from your delivery points I would have thought you should be turning up to a tied up walk and out the door. I'm on a 25 hour contract and don't do D2D's, redirections, just bag up and out (in theory, hardly ever ready for me, usually have to throw of remainder of walk, redir, parcels and then go).

It's not the number of hours in your contract that defines what you do and what gets done for you. It's the duty you are on. Some duties get prepped more than others, some get everything done. Is there a walk log? It should tell you in there. Ask for a complete breakdown of everything you are supposed to be doing, and how long it should take. This should pinpoint any problems. I reckon you should be prepping your door to doors when you get in, but if you are struggling to get everything done, tell your manager. Point out that certain things aren't being done, that there is more than average kill-offs, redirections, packets etc. You might get a bit of overtime out of him.

This is something I don't understand, I thought there was a blanket application to walks, ie 3 and a half hours, half hour tying up, time to get to first delivery point etc. I think if all walks were to come under scrutiny, and absorption was applied accordingly, some people would have no absorption. If certain walks are deemed to need more prep then surely that is admitting that some walks are easier than others and definitely need looking at.

Two of the walks I cover both take roughly 3.5 hrs on an average day. One has 400 houses, one has nearly 700. Obviously the one with 700 houses gets more mail, so takes longer to prep, and so gets more help. It's true what you say though, some walks are easier than others, some have time to absorb part of another duty, some don't.

Realistically, you shouldn't be getting 15 minutes to travel to your walk if it's near, likewise if it's 10 miles away, you should get more time. There can't be a blanket 30 mins travelling time.

I am on a 24hr contract and I don't have time to do D2Ds either (i.e put them together and putting them in the frame). I think I'm going to start leaving them and demanding they get put together for me as the amount of times I have had to come in and finish boxing in has resulted in plenty of O/T as it is.

"weigh bags" - never seen that happen. Is it some quaint old custom in your area ?
