Longer Delivery Spans

Yes - I think its a good idea.

Yes - As long as there is a minimum standards that has to be met when extending deliveries beyond 3.5 hours

Maybe - But all H&S concerns have to be addressed both Nationally and Locally. Also the opinions of those who have to do the work should be taken into consideration more.

No - Plus 3.5 deliveries in non rural deliveries will still involve weight and replenishment/rest issues even in 2 into 1 deliveries.

No - As a matter of principle. A longer delivery span is too much of a sacrifice to protect FT positions.

LONGER DELIVERY SPANS TO SAVE FULL TIME POSITIONS

Post by TrueBlueTerrier »

Answer this as if you were at the table when they are agreeing the final wording of the 2010 Deal.

Question: Longer Delivery Spans In your Opinion are they acceptable if they provide more Full Time positions or keep the ratio as it is.

As someone who usually does rural duties I don't really see the problem, tbh I'd rather spend 8 hours outside the office away from our useless managers.

While I agree that we must preserve full time positions, we have the problem of what happens to part time staff. For example, I work 30 hours a week (5 days x 6 hours) If my delivery span was increased to 4.5 hours, this extra hour would have to be taken from my prep time. At present my duty consists of 3.5 hours delivery, 0.5 hours meal relief, 0.5 hours travelling time to and from delivery, leaving 1.5 hours for prep, kill offs, re-directions, packets etc. There is no way I could do the prep (and the extra prep involved with an extra hour on delivery) in only 30 minutes. We would then end up in the situation where part time walks were substantially shorter than full time ones, simply because there would be no possible way for them to be the same length. At present we are all meant to have the same length of deliveries (yes, I know they are not.) In my opinion, this would cause a further divide between F/T and P/T at a time when we should be united. In effect we would be doing RM's job of divide and conquer for them.

If i thought for one minute it would protect full-time positions i might accept,
But it won't.
P&M2007 was sold to us using these exact same words,
And it didn't.
In 2years time what will they ask of us to protect full-time jobs.
In my opinion it is time to draw a line in the sand.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

sick of hearing about protecting full time, what about long term part timers? promised everything and given nothing no way should any part timer on 6hr day be on delivery for 4.5, but hey thats whats gonna happen along with d2d money sacrificed, monthly pay and paid breaks sold, so all in all we are fu**ed , but our leaders will tell you its the best they could get

Is there a plan of action if or when they do decide to bring these extended walk times in? Do we just accept it and move on?

I'm PT & desperately want to become FT - but not at the cost of longer delivery spans, because that price is too high & I will be a paying it 5 or 6 days a week for the next 30 odd years, so VOTE NO!
I don't suppose your mouth bleeds every 28 days, does it?

Mail delivery; those that can, do, those that can't, MANAGE!

I do 5hrs a day and a delivery of 4hrs + so longer delivery will be more cut off.

maybe its time for the employees out there to waken up to the fact that if they did the job properly its obvious that royal mail would in fact have to increase the amount of workers. In our office we have , especially, partimers coming in 2 hours early, using their cars then running brown nosed to the dim asking to get out early. Yet these are the same ones who are complaining that they cant get made up to full time.To be honest if i was a boss why would i pay people to do a job if they were doing it at no cost..Thick or what! :evil/mad

The rounds would all be the same you would just be EXPECTED to complete on overtime. Just like I must do or be shouted at on a 25 Hr contract . All this to save full time jobs? The same people that look on part timers as muck? Thats a good one!

ONLY if they make everyone full time.

:hmmmm "get away with you ,you must be having a laugh, not a snowballs chance in hell of the membership swallowing that."

Here's the only question that you've got any hope of them agreeing to, ' Thirty five hour week no loss of pay ,would it be acceptable as a means of protecting FT and PT jobs?'

Longer delivery spans. You must be gesting. Just imagine what it would have been like this Chrissy if your round was already 1 hour longer. Stick to 3.5 hours. We all know most of them are already probably at least 4 hours anyway.

coulldn't agree more,we start at six and part timers at nine, yet we have part timers coming in before full timers !!
but it doesn't matter what you say they still keep doing it and moaning about how much there take home pay is!
if our office is typical of the rest, if these people would only realise ( full timers too ) that if we all did the job properly it would create 5-6 full time jobs.alas in 13 years i've yet to see any change, and when you ask management to stop it they throw a deaf-un because they know its true!!!
